My Son: Is it depression or bipolar disorder? I need help
My son is 35. Married with 2 children. Since 2019 he seems to have seasons where his mood is really low. Stops working( he is a nurseby profession ) and just stays in the house, sleeping . He tells me he does not sleep ok at night and therefore sleeps during day time. My biggest worry and reason for seeking your suggestions/ help is how to get him to see doctors and get a diagnosis of what is wrong and therefore what can be done. Refuses to go for any counselling or to see a medical doctor. He complains of being physically and mentally exhausted. Isolates himself from rest of the family and prefers to keep to himself in the bedroom. I have tried everything as a parent and am now not sure what else to do. He does come out once in a while to go shopping but he has lost all interest in walks, work and all other daily activities that he used to enjoy in the past. He doe not appear suicidal but am worried what all the inactiveness is doing for his body and how long he is just going to be sleeping in the house.
Worried father/parent

Want to thank everyone for being there for me. Last night I reached a point of conclusion in my personal journey.
Namaste 🙏🏻
My son has the same profile and recently came back to live with me. He is 42. He takes medication but it doesn't help with this constant sleep and lack of energy. I flew his 16 yr old daughter here to spend 2 weeks and he still barely came out of his room. He stays up late watching TV and is not really trying to find a job. This pattern has occurred for a good 20 years. He also suffers from a lack of testosterone, so that condition contributes to the lack of energy. He's been homeless, used meth and alcohol to self medicate. He got into a program and really improved enough to become an assistant manager in a hardware store. He has gained far too much weight and I am very concerned for his physical health. I am signing him up with a nurse practitioner to manage his testosterone and possible other supplements like Vit B shots. I do not encourage him to use the popular rapid weight loss drugs but hope that a boost in energy will get him out of his bedroom. We are not alone as parents. I speak to so many senior parents whose mid age sons are coming to live with us because they can't survive on their own. I am also going to suggest that he get back into attending 12 step meetings, mostly for the social interaction and encouragement that they provide.
