My Experience with Evenity
I just finished my 12th set of Evenity injections today. I wanted to share my experience with other people who are considering starting Evenity or are already receiving the injections.
Cost and Ordering
My Medicare Advantage Plan covered most of the cost of the medication, and it was authorized very quickly. My out of pocket cost for all the medication was about $2800. My copayments varied depending on which coverage stage I was in. I used my insurance company’s online pharmacy, and the syringes were shipped to my doctor’s office. I never had to pay for the administration of the medication, which was always done by a medical assistant. I saw my doctor several times during the 12 months. The last visit was to go over what happens next.
Side Effects
I experienced some of the side effects listed on Amgen’s website, although not all at the same time. I reported the side effects to my doctor and to Amgen. The side effects included injection site pain, bone pain, joint pain, muscle pain, eczema-like rashes, and fever. I never considered stopping the treatment due to the side effects. The majority of the side effects that I experienced didn’t last very long after each set of injections- sometimes just a day or two. The eczema-like rashes lasted a couple of months.
After Evenity
The next steps are a bone density scan and Prolia injections which are once every 6 months. I’m not sure how long I will be on Prolia.

Maybe find an advantage plan that would pay for it? This is the time of year, I think, where we can change our plans. Or if it’s affordable, go with a PPO Supplement. An insurance broker could help you research plans. I have one for my Plan D. Such a time savings than me trying to figure it all out! Good luck.

1 Reaction@mave14 I am so sorry for what you are experiencing but do so much appreciate your sharing your experience. Give it more time as it took several months 5-6 I think for me to start feeling “normal”. I have had so many tendon issues in knees and shoulders I am wondering if there is any correlation. I never had anything unless it was an injury from an activity I knew about. I wish you the best and pray that your discomfort subsides.

Thank you for your concern and for sharing about how long it took for you to start to feel normal. I too have tendon issues. One each in the back of my knees, and one in my hip. The knee tendon issue is why I have stopped driving. I’ve lost my independence (temporarily). 🤞🏻
I hope you get some help/relief from the tendon issues. They can be debilitating. All the best to you.
Thank you! I am just wondering if there are others that have had similar issues and again, give it time. I thought I had ruined my health and not sure if I compromised my tendons from Evenity or not. I have longitudinal tears in three tendons in my right shoulder which is odd. I did have rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder and that was after Evenity but I had a full thickness tear which I can't pinpoint to any specific event but maybe my tendons have gotten less durable? idk as I am not a medical professional and Evenity hasn't been around all that long. I hope anyone who is on this thread and has had a similar experience will share. I felt pretty much like the professionals thought I was a "head case" so felt validated though these online discussions. Appreciate all who share.

I was on the Prolia shots and have a lot of leg pain and hip pain so I am quitting the shots. Will see the doctor about what follow up meds I need and a venous injection at the hospital for 30 min. That's what doctor had told me. Also wanted to let you know the doctor found out that if they order the Prolia on the Medicare Part B, instead of through the Drug Part D, it only costs $300 instead of the $600 per shot. So I did get a shot in August. But because of my leg and hip pain, I am discontinuing. Don't know what kind of meds I will have to take now since I stopped the Prolia.
Good luck with your shots and getting your costs down
