My biopsy is scheduled soon on my upper right thigh (sarcoma)

Posted by rond306 @rond306, May 2, 2023

Since cancers have been in my family and the look on the doctors face , says it all .. I am already assuming a sarcoma in my upper thigh . Of course I do not like what I read and have been emotional since my evaluation yesterday .. Has anyone had a sarcoma removed in upper thigh ? I like to know what I am in for moving forward . Please respond .. I can deal with a lot being a NYC kid at heart , my 10 year old boy is my biggest concern . This part of life is difficult . My father passed away when I was 27 of prostrate . I am now , Same age group as him and now it’s my turn .. A different event yet in the same ball park .. . Can people survive a long time getting these sarcomas removed ? I never thought I would be reaching out …. I just know something is not right …. I know my body . God Bless everyone here .. I get it …

Hang in there. I just found out today. You are young for this to happen. I think it's all about getting that biopsy done. Then you know more. Are you in NYC? Where are you being treated?

Hi @sherrykb, you said that you too just received a diagnosis. Do you also have sarcoma? What type? Have you discussed treatment options yet? How are you doing?

(Too many questions. Sorry.)

How are you now and I am in the small town of Lake Charles and I think I need to travel somewhere to get the biopsy done cause I don’t want them to make things worse. Where were the doctors you saw. Do you remember?

@satrica1, have you considered where to go for the biopsy? Might MD Anderson in Houston or Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville be an option for you?

Hello @sherrykb and welcome to Mayo Connect. It looks as if a sarcoma diagnosis is new to you. Did you discover this through a doctor's exam or were you aware of something and then went to the doctor?

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Hi. It appears that I am going through the same thing. I have to have a biopsy done to confirm it’s a sarcoma in the same area. Right upper thigh! How are things going with you now? I want this alien out of me!

Of course have the best onocologist ortho .. thanks for concerns … I will have to reach into their portal … Cancer is a strange cell animal .. we did heart and lung ultrasound yesterday ,, listen we have done everything … The first plan was radiation , To change to chemo right now , A) I am not ready to undergo such a treatment with many side effects and many pills for heart , kidney , nausea and urination, total hair loss and nails …. On my way back from
NYC It sunk in .. Aggressive treatment right now for a thigh tumor is a bit much … organs seem fine …. If in fact cells leaked out already , this is not a savior treatment .. hard on me and my family …. From the get go radiation 5 times a week for 5 weeks made sense … chemo is 50/50 also … Let’s see if radiation can shrink it , which was our first plan … chemo can cause more cancer also … And see after a few weeks if in fact this reduces size …. I think we said 11 inches … but so what … it’s on my upper thigh …very accessible . Through the years I have read 10 -20 lb tumors removed … I have to go by my gut and not destroy my life at the moment . I need to work and at least with radiation gives me time to sort out the future .. don’t get me wrong, initially I was all for it .. maybe still an important option … To kill all cells in my body is a huge undertaking for my family also … just spoke to nurse .. we will speak again on Friday

I had a sarcoma removed from my right thigh back in 2022. Before the removal I was given radiation. I found the mass by pure accident. I had sciatic pain and thought it was from a fall that happened years prior. I finally went in to investigate the pain and surprise a mass

I had a leiomyosarcoma in my upper left thigh 34 years ago...it was growing on the major vein. I had 2 surgeries, the first to remove it, diagnose and arrange a plan to save the leg. I then had a second surgery a month later where they removed a lot of muscle and the vein, followed by 34 heavy radiation treatments. I am still here! so be strong and positive.

I had a Sarcoma growth removed from my left thigh in 2021. It had previously seemed to have been caused by a bad dog bite in the same area. It was quite large by the time they removed it. A wound vac was used to close it up. I still have quite a large scar from it and I still need physical therapy for the muscle below it that turned flabby afterwards. My relatives who one is a nurse told me to drink lots of water as that is how all the nerves and blood vessels heal. God bless you.
