My 5-Year Battle with Osteomyelitis and How the Ilizarov Frame Saved

Posted by waelabdullah @waelabdullah, 6 hours ago

Hello everyone,
I wanted to share my journey in hopes that it might offer support and hope to anyone going through a similar struggle.
Five years ago, I suffered an open fracture in my lower leg due to an accident, which led to a severe bone infection (Osteomyelitis). Over the next five years, I underwent four different surgeries involving external fixation. Unfortunately, none of them worked—the pus, infection, and severe pain persisted constantly.
Despite the intense pain, I never gave up. I continued working as a private driver to support myself, relying heavily on painkillers just to get through each day. After five years of suffering, I had almost lost all hope.
Everything changed when I finally found the right treatment using the Ilizarov apparatus. I underwent a procedure that involved bone resection, thorough cleaning of the infected area, and bone transport.
Today, the infection is gone, and I am finally recovering and healing well.
To anyone currently struggling with chronic bone infections or undergoing Ilizarov treatment: please do not lose hope. Recovery is possible! I would love to connect with others who are currently on or have completed
