Music Helps Me

Posted by Parus @parus, Oct 13, 2017

At times music can be helpful. I like the group Anthem Lights...A new discovery for me when I was perusing youtube. A Capella has always been my thing. I love to sing!!!!!

Today I moved a new-to-me roll top desk. A large and beautiful piece, of course it meant I also needed to reposition other things. Yes, I am what you might call uber-organised, and like things "just so". Imagine my delight and surprise to unseal a bag containing old books from my dad, finding a well-worn book of cowboy songs and poetry, plus a volume of "group songs" meant for community singing. While my dad wasn't one to belt out songs often, he appreciated the art of a good and meaningful song. A nice memory on this hot afternoon.

@helenfrances No Ellen Im not a princess altho in our ancestry we had a Princes in Holland that had to abdicate the throne for marrying a commoner from Germany . My great great granddad My Mom died at 90 this is just a friend where I live here she loves to play different games bingo and cards. My Dad died at 49 he was a supervisor in a steel plant where they made war material he had to go down all 3 shifts to tell the guys what to work on. He had a heart attack . Stress . I just gave Delores the title of Queen of the cards .

I just read your post again about your father’s death at such a young age. He was really a hero.. working three shifts.. so that others fighting in the war might live.

@helenfrances Yes but it was hard on him the stress that lead to his heart attack. Thanks Ellen .

@johnbishop Yup that's a great video of some of my favorite songs woven together. I've been a John Denver fan forever, and love Dolly's song, "I will always love you". They also showed some Country Music history with the Ryman Auditorium in the visuals. When they created the show "Almost Heaven", about the life and music of John Denver, they did similar things with weaving 2 songs together so they were being sung at the same time which made some unique and beautiful music with groups of people singing in harmony.

Music and memories - great combination to take your mind off of what ever is bothering you. Just found a great 60s movie that is free on YouTube. If you grew up in the early days of rock and roll you will enjoy seeing this movie, listening to the the songs that brought up memories for me and hopefully for you too.

Update - looks like they changed the movie from free to fee 🙁 It is a great movie. I updated the link. It's also available free on Amazon Prime Video - https://www.amazon.com/That-Thing-You-Everett-Scott/dp/B000I9W0O2

That Think You Do!
