Music Helps Me

At times music can be helpful. I like the group Anthem Lights...A new discovery for me when I was perusing youtube. A Capella has always been my thing. I love to sing!!!!!

Keep singing, Lioness!
I wondered why a woman who sits next to me never sang. I was new to the group and just kept singing.
Later I learned that this woman was Into her 90’s and did not like the sounds she produced 🤬
She comes every week to listen.
God bless her!

Music was my career. . I am retired now and I miss it. Anyway, my voice is no longer what it used to be. I did opera and musical theatre. In musical theatre I was in "The King and I", South Pacific" "Carousel" "Oklahoma" Those were the days!

@mezzosoprano, What a gift and how many smiles you brought to others during your musical career! Growing up in a small TX town, I became an avid collector of 331/3 rpm? records. Not until an adult was I able to experience live opera, symphony and musical productions. At 76, I still have and enjoy a lifetime record collection of operas, musicals, and symphonies.

We age differently now! You are blessed to have an elder with you.
Three of my grandparents had longevity but my father died at 60 (stroke) after a job loss,
and my mother at 69, heart condition:
she was made to work (by stepmother with 8 children!) when she was very sick: scarlet fever. Cruel.

She was later sent away to be a nanny for a wonderful Jewish family in another state.... a blessing! This family travelled extensively and always made sure that my mother practiced her Faith (Catholicism).
I wish I could have met someone from that family.
(My mother returned home to take care of her dying stepmother. !!... and met my father)

My mother was well traveled and well read. My friends used to tell me that my mother was different than their Mothers. (She had life’s education!)
Thank you, adopted family in Ohio.

@helenfrances No Ellen Im not a princess altho in our ancestry we had a Princes in Holland that had to abdicate the throne for marrying a commoner from Germany . My great great granddad My Mom died at 90 this is just a friend where I live here she loves to play different games bingo and cards. My Dad died at 49 he was a supervisor in a steel plant where they made war material he had to go down all 3 shifts to tell the guys what to work on. He had a heart attack . Stress . I just gave Delores the title of Queen of the cards .

@mezzosoprano, I played violin in college and in community/college orchestra for many years. I played principal 2nd violin position. Although not professional level, we covered a wide range of music - and I loved it. There is nothing that can compare to the sound and the atmosphere of participating on stage or in the pit for a live performance. And I miss it, although I never got to see the musical theatre performance in it's entirety.
Have you been able to attend any live performances since you retired?
