Multivitamin beneficial

I found this older study interesting and it was looked at again last year by researchers. Hopefully helpful.

Multivitamin Use May Lower Risk of Prostate Cancer Recurrence.

An association was found between the use of multivitamins and a reduction in the risk of prostate cancer recurrence, according to a recently published study.*
Participants included 1,396 men enrolled in the Cancer of the Prostate Strategic Urologic Research Endeavor (CaPSURE) between 1999 and 2018. The men received treatment with radiation or removal of the prostate for nonmetastatic prostate cancer. Responses to health questionnaires completed after diagnosis provided information concerning the use of multivitamins.
Prostate cancer recurred in 119 men during a median follow-up of 4.7 years. Men who reported supplementing with multivitamins had a 49% lower risk of disease recurrence compared with men who had never used multivitamins. Among multivitamin users whose prostate cancer was of medium grade or higher, the risk of recurrence was 73% lower than among those who never used them.
Editor’s Note: The authors stated that
oxidative stress is a risk factor for the onset and progression of prostate cancer. This suggests that multivitamins’ antioxidant
properties may be responsible for the protective effect observed in this study.

I started taking a multivitamin after watching a PCRI conference. Dr. Moyad Mentioned that taking centrum silver can help with brain fog. Besides that it is also a multivitamin. Costco usually has a sale on them every few months so I got some and I’ve been taking it for a few years.

Maybe it’s another thing that helps with my being undetectable for 28 months.

It probably doesn't apply to just prostate cancer. I think if you took 1500 men that it may help with about any cancer or immune disorder. I think the same study would show having 1500 men do an hour of exercise daily that group would show an overall reduction.

Multivitamins definitely can not hurt and possibly can help - they have my vote ; ), that is for sure. : ))) !!!

Good suggestions with no apparent downside.
I've used One-A-Day multi's for years but with all my immediate, male ancestors having PC my turn came in 2021.
(Those details are here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/lupron-and-osteoporosis/ )
As noted there, my osteo-doctor is a big fan of vitamins C and D3 which I've been taking at a dose around 5,000 IU per day since 12/26. He says you can't overdose on these.
Their long term results for both osteoporosis and PC are in the distant future but I will switch to Centrum Silver given it's possibilities.
Thanks for the good comments above.

@grandpun Funny how different we are. I took Vit C 2000mg day for about 20years. I take 3000iu of D3. I have always been susceptible to kidney stones. The last one in 2021 was a 9mm I had to have removed. Mayo did the workup and it was a calcium oxalate stone. Dr told me that excess Vit C can cause oxalate buildup. He recommended stopping the Vit C. I have not had any stones since.

Thanks for your insight. My stone was small and passed at home; I didn't get it analyzed. Probably a bad move on my part. But so far no more!
None of the many blood and urine tests I've had since Dec. 2025 didn't even mention oxalate.
I'll see ortho doc tomorrow and ask about oxalate buildup potential; maybe get it tested.
Thanks again!

copyman, thanks for posting. It confirms my continued use of a daily multivitamin.

Just don't megadose.

While I don't worry about vitamin OVER-dosing (single event), LONG-TERM megadosing of fat-soluble vitamins (e.g., vitamins D and E) can lead to toxic effects.
https://www.lifeextension.com/wellness/vitamins/vitamin-d-safe-dosage
Calcium and vitamin D supplements are commonly recommended for bone health -- especially important if you're on an ADT for prostate cancer. To make sure you're getting enough, your doctor can add a vitamin D test to your routine bloodwork.

On the other hand, WATER-soluble vitamins -- such as C, B1, B2, and B6 -- generally are not stored in the body (B12 is an exception). Excess water-soluble vitamins get flushed out.

That's why it's so important to get daily doses of water-soluble vitamins, preferably in a healthy diet.

Bottom line: Even with a healthy diet, to help prevent deficiencies I think it's a wise precaution to take a daily multivitamin.

Centrum Silver has very balanced amount of vitamins, for example just 100 mg of vit. C .

Mega-dosing on anything , inclooding on a water ; ) can have negative effects on body.

For vit C , ingesting 1000 to 2000 mg a day can increase oxalate in body, so if somebody is prone to kidney stones perhaps they should take basic recommend daily dose of 100.

BTW, there are 4 types of kidney stones ( different mineral composition) and if you ever have one make sure to check it's origin so you can work on preventing formation of new ones.

@surftohealth88 "Mega-dosing on anything, including on water 😉 can have negative effects on [the] body."

The dangers of a related chemical, dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO), are well-known:

See also https://www.dhmo.org/truth/Dihydrogen-Monoxide.html

On the serious side, this reminds me of how medical claims can be distorted.

It also reminds me of how we misunderstand ("it doesn't have any chemicals added") common words like "chemical": https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/basic-ref/students/science-101/what-is-a-chemical

Ha ha, yes and word "natural" on many products *eyeroll

Arsenic is natural as well as cyanide. I also hate, hate products that claim that they are sugar free and than when you read the label it contains alcohol sugars (xylitol, erythritol, sorbitol, and maltitol etc.). Yes, they have low glycemic index but they can effect sugar levels (particularly maltilol) and not to mention have bad effects on digestion and gut flora in general. IMHO those claims should be forbidden !

Than how about "natural colors" or "natural flavors" - give me a break : / !!! They require heavy processing with solvents to be in a form that can be used for manufacturing - anybody in a mood for some solvent infused vitamin ? Spoiler alert - allllll brands contain fillers, colors, preservatives and gummy type of course bunch of other trash.

Honestly, it is a miracle that we all do not have 10 cancers by the age of 30 when we take into account of what is in our food, water, air, fabrics , etc. !

PS: If anybody knows of multivitamin with no fillers like "modified corn starch" and similar and no "color No. #" and no added "flavor" - please let me know ; ) Since all of those are in minuscule amount in one pill they really have no potential to do ANY harm - it is just that they are absolutely unnecessary and not healthy additions and than for that reason "whyyyyy" ???? XP
