Multiparametric MRI use in detecting bladder cancer reoccurrence

Posted by quahog @quahog, Dec 28, 2025

I have recently read a study that seemed to indicate that mp MRI is a good alternative to cystoscopy in NMIBC reoccurrence prediction. In fact the study showed enhance efficacy in prediction and provided a reliable basis for postoperative management. Has anyone had any experience with mp MRI or know of a treatment center that uses mp MRI in this way?

I did just a little research to see if the medical system I am in uses it. It is used in certain cases, but not to replace a cystoscopy. Literature I found about the MRI seemed to indicate it was better than a cystoscopy, but literature explaining why my medical system still prefers cystoscopy seemed to counter that idea. It stated there are types of cancer that cannot be seen with that type of MRI. I was hopeful that there might be a way to escape the cystoscopies! I guess not just yet.

You could consider CTDNA such as signatera. Or UTDNA (fairly new). If negative very high odds of no disease at detectable levels.

MRI is very expensive so generally discouraged by insurance.
