Hi, @ballec, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sounds frustrating to have that mucus there for so long and not have any luck with treatments.

The medications you talked about sound like you've had a doctor involved with helping to diagnose and treat this? What did your doctor say about the color of your fingernail tips?

I have almost constant mucus forming in back of throat and larynx. Doc says allergic rhinitis, and reflux. Always trying to clear throat, which irritates the whole area. Antihistamines and reflux meds don't help. Worse in afternoon and evening. Had it for years and now I'm old, and wearing me out. If I don't clear I feel I may choke. Any ideas?

I have had chronic mucus formation in the throat for a long time. Reflux can make for stomach acid that comes into the throat, and mucus forms as the body's defense. Also have allergic rhinitis that is always there; allergy to dust, maybe food, who knows. Clearing throat is getting more difficult, as larynx get irritated after all those year. I also fear choking or aspirating mucus. I am in my 80's.
