After treatments for stage 1, MRI found a suspicious lesion, biopsy

Posted by brighterdays @brighterdays, Apr 10 9:19am

Last January I was diagnosed with stage 1 idc on right breast. I went through all the treatments and finally feel like I’m peering above the clouds. Yesterday I went in for an MRI and they found a suspicious lesion on my left breast that went from a birads 3 in October to birads 4 needing a biopsy. My heart sank. This is so hard.

I'm so sorry to hear this--it must be so worrisome. When will you have the biopsy and results? Remember, not all biopsies show cancer. I tend to be a worrier and perhaps an overplanner. But I do have a suggestion. While you are in the stressful time of waiting maybe make a list of everything (everyone) that has helped you in the past year+, and maybe add some aspirations to the list too. It can't hurt either way, and good to remind yourself of support...and how you take care of yourself. Do fill us in when you know more. Hoping for the best for you.

I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with this! It IS incredibly hard!
I’m dealing with a similar situation. My one year MRI showed a lesion in the opposite breast, Birads 3. I go to the cancer center in one week for another MRI and mammogram.

Give yourself some time and grace to adjust to the latest update, and new information. It disorienting and upsetting to have your view of your current life changed. Kind of like an earthquake that vibrates your gound and shakes your surroundings and you’re not sure yet whether it was a 7.5 or a 2.4, and whether they’ll be aftershocks.

Keeping you in my prayers!

Yes, it is disheartening. Praying for both of you that you don’t have to go through it all again.

I will be praying for you. Last year after I was diagnosed with my right breast the MRI found something in my left. I then had a biopsy for that one. It came back as nothing. They’re going to keep close eye on it, but for now, it’s nothing. I’ll be praying yours comes back not cancerous also !! Hang in there.

@brighterdays, I know this is a gut punch for find a suspicious lesion after treatment for stage 1. As disappointing as this is, I'm glad it was found. I hope your story unfolds like @meg55's and the lesion proves to be benign. Thank goodness you have a team that is being thorough and vigilant.

When will you have your biopsy? How are you doing today?

I love analogies and your earthquake analogy is right on target. Not every earthquake is significant nor is every lump, but they do deserve our attention for however long the shaking lasts. To continue with your analogy, if it's 2.4 we're delighted and if it's 7.5, we hold on tight and then come together to rebuild.

Two people on this thread have just told us that their new lump found post breast cancer was benign. That's a good reminder that 80% of breast biopsies are benign so just because you had cancer before doesn't mean every lump from that day forward will be malignant. It just means that we need to be vigilant and the doctors would be remiss if they didn't biopsy. Please keep us posted. Continued prayers.

Thank you. My biopsy is on Tuesday. I’ve been bouncing between sadness, anger and fear. Not ideal for sure but in moments of clarity I try to remember this saying. “Worry cannot take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace.” And it helps me find bits of happiness throughout each day.
