MRA with Contrast for Kidneys and Liver

Has anyone had a MRA with contrast for their liver while on dialysis with PKD? Many thanks for any insights.

@kzeiss Interesting question! I had to look up what an MRA is, truthfully. It sounds like your internist is concerned with blockage or blood vessels?

If I was to be in your shoes, I would ask what kind of contrast will be used. I recently had a low-contrast low-dose MRI done, to monitor my multiple myeloma. I am on [daily] peritoneal dialysis. Also, my oncologist was in contact with my nephrologist to confirm that this procedure would be okay to perform. My not-so-local imaging center [50 miles each way] could not meet the requirements, so it was done in the town where my oncology and PD clinic are [2.5 hours away each way].

What concerns are prompting the MRA, if I may ask?

First, my apologies for not responding sooner. The transplant center doctor will not place him on the waitlist for his kidney transplant without a contrast liver MRA because, even though both of his kidneys now weigh close to 30 lbs, they suspect his present severe pain may be caused by an enlarged liver bile duct. The test they refer to is a HIDA test for diffuse binary duct dilation. He is in the ER right now on IV pain killer for his pain. He is a remarkable person with a very high tolerance for pain so I know he is in agony. He has a pain doctor who will not be available until Tuesday and he told my son that, any problems, go to ER.

So, risk vs reward. He is also on peritoneal dialysis which will not clear the contrast out of his system. I also worried. So, thank you so much for any insights.
