Morton Neuroma surgery and still dealing with foot and nerve pain
I’ve had 2 surgeries on my foot in the past 4 years. The first was for hammer toe and FOOT EXCISION LESION NEUROMA CYST in which they put a screw in one toe and clipped the nerve in between the other toe. The nerve ended up growing back and I had another Morton’s Neuroma surgery in October of 2024. Now I’m starting to have issues again and the whole reason I decided to have a 2nd surgery was because I was having to go back after the first surgery to get a steroid shot because my foot kept getting inflamed. I hope I’m posting in the right group, btw. I’m trying to figure out if there is anything I can do for the nerve or foot pain besides gabepinten. My foot gets some kind of weird sensation at times especially at night. I’m wondering about ablation and if it might help. Also is there any other doctor that might be more knowledgeable other than a podiatrist?

Welcome @blinkey, Sorry to hear you are having intense pain after your hammer toe surgery. I'm not a doctor but it doesn't sound like normal pain associated with recovering from a surgery. Have you discussed the symptoms and pain with your surgeon or doctor?
I had hammertoe surgery with metal screws and plate. Now after several years I have neuropathy. I just live with it.

2 ReactionsWelcome @clatina, Do you mind sharing what your neuropathy symptoms are? Did you have a diagnosis or just have the symptoms?

1 Reaction@clatina In reply, I simply have numbness of my forefront of my foot, first 3 toes. My family physical shrugged it off. I tried Lyrica without success and back on Gabapentin with partial relief.

I have had neuropathy for 8 years now after chemo therapy. I am on Gabapentin but I would love to get off of it. I sure wish these doctors would take this seriously and get the drug companies to make something that really helps us without the side effects.
Sorry if I ranting,

From what I’ve heard, VERY pricey.
I just had the neuroma surgery after years of costly physical therapies. Injections, shock & electrical treatments. Different types of copper socks.
I’m hoping the nerves in my foot will calm down and I will obtain some relief. I’ll be going back to see the doctor in about a week. I have tried a tow separator sock, separating the big toe from the other toes, but that did not help. I will try other toe separation socks. I have already tried different inserts and it’s very difficult to maneuver those.
My surgery was with a podiatrist. I may talk to my neurologist because I saw about Botox injections helping. I simply cannot live with us any longer. Also saw something about some type of alcohol injection. I will let you know if I have any relief soon. I hope to have a good news to report.
I hope you soon can find relief. I had a Morton's neuroma many years ago. I investigated surgery and the lower extremity surgeon informed me that surgery was not always curative; the Morton's neuroma can either come back or not be fixed by surgery. I decided not to have surgery. My PT suggested I investigate getting an orthotic made. The town I live in has a very high quality ortotic maker who makes orthotics for many Olympic athletes, and also for regular people. I saw him and he knew exactly what to do. He made orthotics for me. He makes the orthotics himself. After I got the orthotics I found that they didn't quite eliminate the pain from the Morton's neuroma. He made an adjustment and I've been pain free since then. In fact, they have eliminated the nueroma to the extent that in the summer I can wear sandals and not use the othotics without a problem. Yes, Morton's neuromas are very difficult. I'm fortunate that I was able to get a non-surgical option. While, I'm certainly not a doctor, you might, even at this stage, talk to an orthotist, one who makes his own orthotics. I hope you find relief soon.
