2 yrs ago my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer after her vocal cord collapsed. She had been receiving keytruda but stopped approx. 8 months ago. Her cancer is stable as of now however lately she's been very disoriented, confused, unsteady lacks ability to concentrate. How can I best help her and what can I expect in the future.

@luvnmemama2023, I’m really sorry you and your mom are going through this.

It’s good news that her cancer is stable. However, the new symptoms—confusion, unsteadiness, trouble focusing—should definitely be brought up with her care team right away. They can come from a lot of different things, not just the cancer.

The best way you can help is by keeping notes, sharing what you see with her doctors, going with her to all doctor visits, and making sure she’s safe and supported day to day. Stable disease is something to hold onto, and there are good options to help her keep the best quality of life possible. Remember to take care of yourself in order to be the best supporter you can be. And please remember—you’re already doing a wonderful job just by being so attentive and caring for her.

Mom needs an MRI to evaluate or rule out brain metastasis. There are other things that can cause similar symptoms. She needs to see a clinician.

@luvnmemama2023, Your mother is fortunate to have you by her side. These symptoms may be caused by many things, and I agree with the others who have posted. Any change that you notice, certainly those that you are describing, are concerning. Is she able to get an appointment soon? Will you let us know what they find?
