Mom had a knee replacement on 12/12.

Hello I am in the group for my Mom she is 82 years old and she just had her left knee replacement on 12/12. I think she is doing well and from what I’ve read that it is common to feel exhausted and napping.
She does have obsessive sleep disorder which can be very exhausting also. She has been taking her Tylenol and that seems like it is not helping any advice?

Hi; this is not necessarily advice -- but since I'm also 82 (recovering from a stroke) -- what I am doing to help me sleep more pain-free: I take Tylenol, Gabapentin and Melatonin before bed. Would suggest you or she discuss with her doc.

I am 78 and had a TKRon my right knee 11-6. i am having trouble sleeping also. At 2 months out I still have pain in the healing joint and my calf below that joint. I have had pins and needles and jolts that feel like electricity. Also stinging and burning. Right after surgery I used oxycondan regularly. About the time I started outside PT I could handle the pain with tramadol. I also used tynenol, ice paks, and advil. Just take it one day at a time.

My surgery was 12/9. I am 72. Ice and gentle stretching have helped me get through many of the rough spots. I’m using Journavx, Meloxicam, and Tylenol PM at night. That usually gives me 6-8 hours of sleep.

Her exhaustion could be a result of having lost her body tone during the pre-surgery period. That happened to me. My surgery was great and my recovery was excellent but I still feel tired in both legs because of what happened. I am working on getting my body tone (what there is of it at 80 YO) back.

I too have had exhaustion. It has been suggested that I lost my muscles and stamina because of inactivity. Like I said earlier I have many nerve sensations in my knee and calf. I was also experiencing pain throughout my body, This also happened to me after other surgeries. My dr. diagnosed me with chronic pain syndrome. I got gabapentin, up to 300mg twice a day. Currently I am up to 200 mgs twice a day. I am much much better but still having pain in my knees so I will increase the dosage.

Meloxicam (anti inflammatory) was my best friend while recovering! And even tho she may not want to, moving around and the PT exercises are necessary. Good luck to her and you!
