Mitral regurgitation

What is the best treatment?

Surgery. Usually they can do it with a small incision, even perhaps through a catheter. I believe it's just day surgery. But a failing mitral valve needs to be repaired, and that is done surgically.

Does anyone know anything about the Superior Mesenteric artery? Mine is a 50% blockage and it's calcified. I also have a smallish aneurysm in the splenic artery.
Thanks to everyone. (this is my first post, hope its in the right place)

If you live near and can travel to Raleigh, NC, contact this office to send your test results, especially the latest echo, to the great cardiac surgeon, Dr. Byron Boulton; set up a consultation visit, perhaps by phone. He is Director of the WakeMed Structural Heart Program at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC. Phone (919) 231-6333. I had a serious regurgitation/mitral valve problem (caused by a gum/dental infection) and AFIB. He repaired my mitral valve, did an LAAC, and did an ablation to cure my AFIB. That was over three years ago. I am as fine as wine, off all meds too, except for 4 amoxicillin before dental visits. I am an 81-year-old male, just a kid.

I had mitral valve repair coming up on two years ago. My understanding is that mitral valve repair cannot be done through catheterization, but I could be wrong on that. Mine was a "minimally invasive procedure," using a thoracotomy (incision between the ribs) to gain access instead of a sternotomy (splitting the sternum). It required about 5 days in the hospital. I had a couple hiccups during recovery which sent me back to the hospital a couple times about a month after surgery - long story, but I caught a flu and ended up with a collapsed lung - pretty rare.
Anyway, find a good cardio-thoracic surgeon who has done a lot of these procedures.

All the best to you.

Correction, mitral valve repair can be done through catheterization:

From Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/mitral-valve-repair-mitral-valve-replacement/about/pac-20384958
Annuloplasty. Surgeons tighten or reinforce the ring around the valve. Annuloplasty may be done alone or with other methods to repair a heart valve.
Valvuloplasty. Also called balloon valvotomy, this treatment is used to repair a mitral valve with a narrowed opening. The doctor inserts a catheter with a balloon on the tip into an artery in the arm or groin and guides it to the mitral valve. The balloon is inflated. This makes the mitral valve opening larger. The balloon is deflated. The catheter and balloon are removed.
Mitral valve clip. A surgeon guides a catheter with a clip on its end to the mitral valve through an artery in the groin. The clip is used to fix a torn or leaky mitral valve leaflet. This treatment may be recommended if you have severe mitral valve regurgitation and you cannot have other types of mitral valve surgery.

@saganjames Your success with surgery is so very encouraging to read! I am 62 y.o. with severe regurgitation and am very worried about surgery whenever that maybe. I live in Illinois and will do research to find a very experienced cardiac surgeon.
Thank you so much for sharing!

@loveitaly Buon giorno. Yes, please do your research to get a good surgeon. As my surgeon has said to me, it's as much an art as it is a science. It takes plenty of experience to become an artist. Don't be shy about asking for references.

My surgeon is great and always in demand, so as I have posted in the past:
