Do "Blue Zones" actually exist, or is it that they had poor recordkeeping (e.g. birth certificates) 100 years ago?

1 ReactionMy Mom was diagnosed as terminal with 6 months to live back around 1947 by 3 separate doctors. She passed in 2011 at the age of 90. Nothing miraculous; she just (unexpectedly) recovered from a chronic long term illness (although I don't recall the specific diagnosis). My Dad worked in the engine room of large warships for most of his 20 year Naval career. Whenever he got a chest x-ray the doctors always first thought he had lung cancer, but it was just the scarring from the heat in the engine rooms. Consequently, this guys story doesn't convince me the "blue zone" had anything to do with his survival (other than the normal benefits of eating well and staying reasonably active). Seems more likely he was simply misdiagnosed. Of course, I really don't know and this is just my 2 bit (skeptical) opinion. Best wishes.

2 ReactionsTotally believable. The environment is definitely a factor, but I believe (especially going back to) living in one's own ancestral home where one was born and raised, being in familiar surroundings and catching up with childhood frienda and extended family, working in the garden and spending time with nature, all these tend to make one feel young and energetic again. And those FEELINGS are the switch that flood the consciousness with healing. I know of several people in my own life to whom their faith (and I am not talking religion here, not necessarily faith in a particular God, though sometimes it is, faith in a higher power, in the universal consciousness or even just staunch faith in one's own resilience) has helped them overcome terminal illness especially cancer.

2 ReactionsI read the first Blue Zones book about 10 years ago. It could be coincidental, but it’s pretty interesting that the places in the world that have the highest concentrations of people living to be 100 yrs. + all share similar lifestyles. There is an original Blue Zone right here in the US…Loma Linda, California. I believe, based on Buettner’s research, that people in Blue Zones live a preindustrial lifestyle. A way of living that’s not mainstream in wealthy modern high tech societies.

1 ReactionLoma Linda residents just practice healthy living by applying some biblical principles but they definitely do not live in the per-industrial way of living - completely modern lifestyle just healthy practices.

1 ReactionDid you mean to say they don’t have a preindustrial culture? Because to me, post industrial and modern are the same stage of societal evolution.

I have family member who was diagnosed with incurable blood cancer confirmed by 2 CAT (or PAT/CT I forgot which one) scans and spontaneously went into remission. No signs of cancer for 13 years now. Person is deemed "cured". Did not have any therapy but used herbal supplements and exercise and meditations and not in a hope for cure but to find help dealing with the diagnosis. Doctors were surprised but said that it is not unheard of and that cancer patients in general do have spontaneous remissions and complete healing with any type of cancer but nobody is researching that since it is so rare and unexplainable.
Body has self regulating mechanisms and is killing mutated and old cells on a daily bases the same way as it kills bacteria, viruses , fungi and other pathogens. It is only when our body misses cancer cells and fails to kill them on time that tumors grow and become terminal. The whole idea of immunptherapy is based on training out ( or better said re-training) body to recognize cancer cells as it should and clean them up ! For some people immune system suddenly wakes up and cleans up the mess - and that is how spontaneous healing happens.

2 ReactionsI’m truly unsure exactly why some get better & some don’t. It takes me back to 2016 when I was given 2 weeks to live and I actually felt like they were right but obviously they were not. But my whole life there were several occasions when I was certain I was going to die, like no way out and yet… I always asked the creator of all things to help me and through bladder cancer 2014, stage 4 lung cancer 2016, 2019 bladder cancer again and being treated for stage 4 prostate cancer presently, so I guess there’s a lot of theory regarding these killing diseases but I do so enjoy overcoming these dire predictions but I also believe that I had a lot of help and believed that I would get it. You also need to believe that you’ll get better, at least I do.
