Mirabegron Prescription from Mayo?

Posted by as737 @as737, 3 days ago

My Mayo Urology PA prescribed Mirabegron over 3 months ago. As I’m retired military, I go through Express Scripts. This medication requires a Prior Authorization from the clinician. Express Scripts has told me that they have been unable to get Mayo to respond to their emails asking for justification. Has anyone else been prescribed this, and if so, were you able to get a Prior Authorization with Mayo? This is getting so frustrating because it doesn’t seem to be consistent with the care I have received thus far from Mayo.

I’ve been on Myrbetriq For over a year now. I did not get it through Mayo. My Kaiser urologist prescribed it, and I had no problem getting it.

Contact the urologist at Mayo and ask them to please handle this for you.

@jeffmarc thank you! Yes, it came up in the visit yesterday with the Urology PA. She was surprised that the Prior Authorization department at Mayo hasn’t responded to Express Scripts. I furnished a phone number for them to contact Express Scripts, but no action yet. I have downloaded the specific form that Express Scripts requires them to fill out , and furnished that. Fingers crossed, but for now I self paid $200 for a 30 day supply. Expensive medication! Obviously works for you?

That isn't typical of Mayo prior authorization practice. Someone has dropped the ball, and that is unacceptable. You need to be the squeaky wheel and contact the Mayo urology physician directly if you can, though it is possible the PA sees the portal and phone call messages before the physician does. Another idea is to use the Mayo Specialty Pharmacy, which might not work for your military retiree status, but which we have never had drop the ball.

@lag thank you. Actually the PA has been my primary contact since surgery. I’m thinking about asking for a change.

@as737 This is really weird. Mayo is sooo good about everything. Hope you get it straightened soon. These admin/insurance hassles are such a drag.

Some payors require using a 'specialty pharmacy' My ORGOGYX (relugolix) required one for me. (Non Medicare)

It is helpful to use both names when starting a thread: MYRBETRIG, (mirabegron)

Have you been in contact with the Mayo PA? I was having issues with getting 90-day supplies of Orgovyx. Express Scripts has a specific Prior Authorization department and a separate Pharmacy-only Helpline. Both of those were helpful getting the prescription started. I also have a Mirabegron Rx through Express Scripts.

@jime51 thank you! Yes, I’ve even gone so far as downloaded the specific Mirabegron PA form and furnished it to the Urology department. Express Scripts says there has been no response yet.

You are far more patient than I. I spent 10 days of hours on phone calls getting Orgovyx set up, and the prize for that effort was not only getting 90-day supplies but accessing a grant that covered my entire cost. Be the squeaky wheel if you're serious about the medication.
