I use monthly Emgality shots. They have decreased the number of migraines to 2 to 3 monthly. I was having close to 15 per month.

I have two Emgality shots sitting in my refrigerator right now. I’m terrified of needles and I have heard that these are especially painful. Honestly, how bad does the injection hurt?

I use Torodol. It helps. Those I know who used Botox have good results.

I read somewhere that a magnesium deficiency could cause migraines. I started taking it about a year ago and have not had a migraine since. Good luck - I feel your pain!

Hi there @jsp68. Emgality shots give a pinch, then its over. I understand though, I spent more time worrying about the shot than it actually took to get it over with.

Might it be easier if someone else administers the shot for you?

Have you tried giving the shots in the side of your legs? Honestly as painful as that sounds for me it really isn’t. One thing a nice seasoned nurse taught me is to take a rough cloth and rough up the area where you’re giving the injection and boy does that help. Good luck.

I had 30 painful Botox shots in my head, shoulders and neck. I ended up with migraines in a new location in addition to my normal area. The area over my ears stayed tender for months. Didn’t work at all for me.

Emgality didn't work for me. Injections are 10 seconds and just a bit of burning. Really, nothing compared to what is coming life!

I get shots in my head for occipital neuralgia and they are very painful. I have a high tolerance for pain though. Some can’t give a shot very well. If pain is going behind your ears it could’ve turned to. What I have. Ask your neurologist

Check into something called Chiari malformation. It's related to occipital headaches.
