Anybody diagnosed with microscopic colitis?
Hi, wondering if anybody here has this for a dx. I have been having a flare for about two months, it is getting a little better with the meds but the doctor wants me to go on a short dose of steriods. I already have a muscle disease so hate to go the steriod route, (plus do not need to gain weight) lol. But if anyone has any hints for me I would appreciate it on how to control this. It is the longest flare I have had.

@janstur By the time I weaned off for 6 months, I was taking every 4 days for I think 2 weeks until I could stop. She is probably right which is why they usually have patients take just one a day but if every 4 days works for you then do it. At least you are already in the weaned off phrase. You are still suppressing the cortisol your adrenal glands naturally produce but only to a small degree.
@donnagail that's amazing, that you stopped the pre, pro and vitamins and your diarrhea stopped. How long ago was that and has it started up again?
Its been a couple of weeks now. I did eat popcorn a few nights ago and had a problem with diarrhea but it didn't stick around. Back to normal again. No more popcorn for me! 😞

After that appointment, I just went off altogether. So far so good but I'm super paranoid it will come back!
@janstur Just be careful with gluten, dairy, added sugars, alcohol and caffine and you will probably be find. If you worry too much, you might send the wrong signal to your brain. Yea, like getting anxious when ya gotta go and are getting close to a bathroom. It really messes with you 🧠 and 💩. Haha!

Good luck! Keep us posted on how it's going.

I’ve been on budesonide for 2 years and wish I could get off. It certainly helped. A lot. But I hate the weight gain. Still have break through diarrhea that I take Lomotil for. Did you wean off budesonide? I didn’t realize that the adrenal gland stops making cortisol if you’re on budesonide. I eat next to nothing but gained on budesonide. Started entyvio. Guess we have to live with this embarrassing disease for life.

1 ReactionI don't know if I gained weight because after I was diagnosed I had lost 15 pounds. Now I'm only 5 pounds below my original weight so maybe it was the Budesonide, but I think having no diarrhea allowed my body to gain the 10 pounds. I weaned off of Budesonide, first every other day for 1 month or so, then every two days, etc. I'd love to gain weight but don't think I ever will. I'm 5'4" and 100 pounds. Yes, I was told for life. Before she passed away at 80 from pancreatic cancer, my aunt gave me her IBS books because she didn't have it anymore. Is there hope?

1 ReactionYou’ll probably gain weight loss back. It mainly depends on how long you’re in remission. When my MC is flared up I usually lose anywhere from 20-40 pounds, sometimes more, depending on how long the flare up. Lasts. It’s a combination of 24/7 diarrhea & not being able to eat much to begin with. When I can finally resume a regular diet, I will put weight back on, but very slowly. It’s a long process to get back to a healthy diet. I’ve had this for 35+ years.
