Methyltrexate and alcohol

Posted by marilyncarkner @marilyncarkner, Mar 23 5:53am

I am 77 years old and have been through a traumatic upheaval in my life . I was drinking a bottle of white wine every night for a period of time …2 months . ( no judgement or lectures please).
It really helped me and I do love my wine. I know all the negatives about that combination .I am on 25 mgs once a week . Interestingly my blood work ALT showed no issue with my liver .Did I just get lucky or is there another test that would indicate a problem. …and no now that things have settled somewhat I will return to my 4 glasses per week as recommended. I am extremely active and swim 60 laps 5 times a week….maybe the increased blood flow could help flush the liver…who knows .
Any thoughts on this ?

You are in line with the more liberal UK guidelines
for alcohol and MTX if your glasses are 8 ounces or
less. Factors to consider as well are cumulative dose
of methotrexate over the years and other meds to avoid
such as acetaminophen in excess. I’m sure you are not having your allotted glasses all on the same occasion.
Make sure your diet is healthy and take your folic acid
and B vitamins. What is your doctor’s opinion and experience.? It sounds like your lifestyle is fit and healthy so the calories are deserved.
