memory lapses
Hello,
Just wondering since my peripheral neuropathy diagnosis was this year.
A number of times during the day I go to do something and as soon as I get to where to do it, I go completely black. I find myself having to retrace backward inside my memory to locate what I wanted to do and then do it.
Any comments, thoughts, etc...???
Take care and have a serene day,
gus

I’m sad to say that it also happens with me on some of life’s minute tasks. For me I think it might be because I am 82 and have lost a few steps down memory lane 🙃
Sometimes I pour myself a cup of coffee walk away for 30 seconds. Forget that I poured the coffee I put my phone down. Then spent 40 minutes looking for it so yeah, my memory gets a little foggy I think sometimes I’ll do something all day and then try to remember what I did all day and I have to think on it for a minute or two before I remember so far my memory lapses haven’t caused me any real issues and sometimes I just like to forget things I think gabapentin might have something to do with it or I could just be another symptom of neuropathy, cause neuropathy always leaves you guessing
I don't know how old you are, but things like this happen on an almost daily occurence to me, and I'm 66. I'll have something I would like to say to my wife, and then before it comes out of my mouth, it's gone. Or I'll walk into a room and forget why I was in there. I've also put some things away so well that now I can't find them.
It's either a part of the aging process, or possibly some side effect from the 12 prescriptions that I'm taking. Either way, it's frustrating.
Hi John,
Have you by any chance ever noticed if there may be a link between peripheral neuropathy and memory lapses? From few internet searches, I am beginning to feel there may be.
Take care and have a serene afternoon,

Hello,
All of neuropathy is a guessing game. Everyday there may be new onsets of issues. I am learning to expect the unexpected with this condition.

Hello,
I am 68 years old. I was put on so many different medications last year but none worked for the condition. It could be their effects that are now kicking in and happening more often. I haven't been on any of those medications since February of this year but the damage might have already been done. Thank GOD so far no major interference with my life and I hope it remains this way. But Who Knows? I am learning to expect the unexpected with this condition.
Take care and have a serene afternoon,

Hi,
I thought it was just normal as we age. I make twice as many cups of tea a day than I actually drink. I find I loose a word when seconds before I have it ready to speak. I'm gratified my wife is now discovering she also is making more drinks than she drinks, we each are reminding the other we made a drink, drink it. I try to be regular in the times I make a drink so it becomes programmed into the brain, no, that hasn't worked either! I finally got myself an egg timer and set that to remind myself I have a cuppa waiting. As for doing thinks a note down things I wish to say or do to remind myself. Heavens forbid I lose the note!
Cheers
Hi Gus, I have read about Brain Neuroplasticity being used in helping people with providing relief for neuropathy symptoms but not sure about making memory worse. Here's one study ...

Barry @user_che214927, started this discussion that is pretty interesting as a treatment for neuropathy:

@gus0557 same here - you are not alone. I can relate to each and every one who has responded to you, too!
I think we are living in a world full of distractions these days.
BIRTHDAYS… avoid them! It is predictable the more candles on that cake - the more lapses in memory.
I try to be patient and gentle with myself, but I still won’t eat Birthday cake (could i be allergic to cake?)!:-)
