Medication linked to Peripheral Neuropathy

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jun 2 7:47am

I suffer from PN and I suspect it may be linked to my medication either directly or by interactions. I would like to hear from anyone who uses any of the same meds and wether like me have PN.

Sotalol/Finasteride/Lansoprazole/Sertraline/Losartan/Clonazepam/

Dabigatran(blood thinner).

Sotalol
Lansoprazole
Sertraline
Losartan

Hi, Gus -- Have you seen any reduction in your PN symptoms, particularly numbness, since going off your statin & etc.? Have you been told to expect improvement?

I am in a 2-3 month trial separation from Atorvistatin 80/40 mg for sensory PN and wondering how long it would be before I saw any improvement -- or indeed if I should expect any or is any damage permanent.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

In anatomy and physiology in college we are taught nerves do not regenerate. I went through RN school. If nerves regenerate we would all be healed from this nasty disease. The only thing in the body that can regenerate is the liver.

I took rhythmol for 15 yrs prior to being diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. Had to change to multaq because rythmol became non- conducive to me. These medications are for my afib. There was no indication that these medications have anything to do with my neuropathy. With this being said, I am on a program with stem-cell injections along with red-light therapy plus electrical applications. (30 min. Sessions). I have been given also high powered drinks to reduce inflammation. Would be curious if anyone has tried such a program. Everything is geared on a 90 day period.

Hi Bob,
Would you tell me what type of doctor/facility offered that program? I'm not sure where I should go for a proper diagnosis and/or treatment. Thanks! Hope it's working for you.

I first started taking rhythmol because I was diagnosed with Afib by my cardiologist. After trying several other medications that multaq kept my heart from beating to fast & a pacemaker from going to slow. Hope this helps.

I have been taking Losartan 75mg divided per day. My previous peripheral neuropathy which was on bottom of feet for years has increased to include both feet and now in one year has spread to both calves past the ankles. Pain in both legs wakes me during the night and after 7-8 hours of wakeful sleep my legs hurt. I also use a CPAP with a setting of 12-15 as needed. I am also vegan and suspect Vit B12 deficiency. I am presently taking 2000mcg B12 sublingual as of two days ago. I eat a diet rich in PB Vit B6 but do not understand why the neuropathy has spread and is now painful especially when lying down. Should I inquire as to increased Vit B intake as a therapy?

Welcome @pnb12, Sorry to hear that the neuropathy pain has increased. I'm not sure how much vitamin B6 you are taking but it can cause neuropathy if you get too much and have B6 toxicity. I would always discuss supplements with your doctor before taking them as there can be interactions. Have you had your vitamin B levels checked with a blood test?

I live in the UK and I have taken omeprazole for a lot of years. My understanding is peripheral neuropathy is nerve damage and I find it difficult to understand how a stomach medicine would affect the spinal cord or cause nerve damage just an observation
