Mayo campus installing metal detectors

FYI, if visiting a Mayo campus you may encounter new metal detectors at entrances. I have seen them at some of Rochester campus entrances.

They are not as sensitive as airport detector and do not require you to remove shoes, etc… You walk through caring your belongings.

Just want people aware for following reason:
- It may take longer to get onto campus at peak times, so plan accordingly.
- If have something of metal that you do not need, leave in car, hotel or home. Example, a lady had a metal eye glass holder in purse that set off alarm and she was delayed shortly to talk to security.

Mayo policy is weapons are prohibited on all Mayo Clinic properties except when in the possession of a commissioned federal, state or local law enforcement/correctional officer.

It is shame we have to live in a world that requires this, but Mayo is doing what they feel is needed for the safety of patient and staff.

I just returned from Mayo Clinic in Rochester and did not encounter a metal detector at the Gonda Bldg entrance. Where did you encounter one?
