@mizbbd I did a search of Connect and wasn't able to find any other mention by members of "MRI findings Intramastoid fluid signal" but did find a research article on the topic that might help explain it.
-- Fluid signal in the mastoid is a common incidental finding on MRI of the brain: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30421176/

@mizbbd, hello and welcome to Connect. I had a Squamous Cell Carcinoma invading my mastoid bone from the external ear canal. Initially it was not visible on MRI and no fluid signal. I see in the NIH article John provided that fluid signal is more commonly an incidental finding and insignificant. I wondered if you were having symptoms prior to the MRI? My cancer was very painful as it was invading bone, but took months and several different ENT's to diagnose it. Multiple MRIs of my head over 12 years have since noted other incidental findings of fluid in sinuses and other things not worth pursuing.
@sepdvm oh, yes there are other findings. It isn’t from middle ear infections, it all stems from severe TMD damage, that has led to facial deformities, my sinuses are a “thickening” , and now has led to destruction to ear canal, tinnitus, chronic migraines, blurred vision, vision loss at times, which MRI is showing intramastoid fluid. I’ve FINALLY received referral to ENT. Awaiting approval from state insurance. It has been years of suffering.
Feedback/support is always appreciated. It has been a very lonely road. God is good.
Bobbi, it sounds like you have had a long history of suffering with this and need some expert advice. I hope your ENT can help, but keep looking for a solution even if you have to keep requesting new referrals. You are your own best advocate for your medical care. Keep after it until you feel like you have done everything in your power to find the proper help. May God bless you with an ENT doctor who will find a way to relieve your symptoms.
@sepdvm thank you so much for your encouragement. God bless you
Sue- wow, we are our own advocate and unfortunately there Our patients don’t have the ability to see many different physicians or the experience- It gets very tiring To continue researching with doctors for an answer-
Two weeks ago I passed out but my head and my right ear ear is silent- I have had in the past feeling of fluid in that Ear - that one ENT has mentioned mastoid fluid. I’m going to research that more so thank you so very much much.- !!!!!!
