Male hot flashes: Post liver transplant recipient

Posted by senorluv @senorluv, Jul 24, 2022

I am a 71 y.o., male, post liver transplant person. Recently, after eating, when digestion takes place I get warm, sweat, like a hot flash. Doesn't matter if meal is hot or cold

Since you mentioned it happens after eating, are you able to associate the hot flashes with any type of foods you eat (hot or cold)?

Sorry, did not mean hot or cold since you had already mentioned that did not matter. I was asking if it mattered specifically what food you eat - types of meat, types of vegetables, etc.. Have you discussed the new symptoms with your transplant or healthcare team?

@senorluv, Welcome to Connect. I am a liver transplant recipient, too. I saw this discussion this morning while waiting for my husband during an appointment. I want to share the following discussions where transplant recipients have discussed their experiences with hot flashes since their transplant surgeries.
-Vivid awakening nightmares, sweating, hot flashes every night

How long ago was your liver transplant surgery? Have you mentioned it to your transplant team?

Transplant was 06/23/2005. Haven't contacted transplant team yet. Symptoms only started last month. They are not bad or long lasting. Just annoying. We are going on a 6 week road trip Saturday, and I will see if problem persists with changes in daily activity as well as environment.

I know this is a late post reply but I just wanted to say I've had 2 liver transplants and with my first in 2000 I started having periodic hot flashes day or night. They lasted for about 5 years back then. My donor was a female at that time and I am male. With the second liver transplant in 2017 I did not notice hot flashes and my donor was male. I had read that lower testosterone levels in males will cause hot flashes. I used to have my GP test my testosterone and it was in the normal range but low. No treatment was suggested back then. It's been a while since my last test so I am going to ask again about a test when I get my physical in June 2024.
