Macular pucker growing again after years of stability?
I was dx with a macular pucker (epiretinal membrane) when I was 24 years old. They never looked into what might have caused it, instead chalking it up to being idiopathic (I have some suspicion now that it might be caused by a yet to be diagnosed autoimmune condition that’s causing inflammation).
After a period of growth it actually started to improve. It never released but all my distortion symptoms went away and I only had flashing in that eye. Last year the doctor told me it was so stable he didn’t think it would grow anymore.
Now I have symptoms again and the OCT shows substantial growth. Additionally, it appears that I may have it in the other eye now as well.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Is this just a hallmark of being diagnosed so young or further credibility regarding the claim that something like an underlying autoimmune condition is causing the pucker?
Thanks in advance!
