Lyrica treatment

I am an 83 year old woman and my neurologist has me on 100mg of Lyrica a day. 50mg in the morning and 50 at bedtime for burning nerve pain caused by Fibromyalgia and IBS. I have been on it for a month and it has never stopped my burning pain. When my skin starts burning my blood pressure spikes even though I am on BP meds 3 times a day. Sometimes it goes up to 200 even after I have taken BP meds. This has been going on 24 hours a day for 4 months. It has completely disrupted my life. Help.

You might want to get a second opinion from another neurologist. I’m on Lyrica as well - 3x per day - for fibromyalgia and neuropathy and nerve damage from a car accident. It doesn’t eliminate all the pain, basically just dulls it, but it should be helping a little. Maybe another medication would be helpful. It’s worth checking out.

Thanks for the comment. It is slowly beginning to help a little. I would like to get off the Lyrica and get on Amitriptyline or nortriptyline but I would have to wean off the Lyrica first and that would be a nightmare.

That’s a pretty high blood pressure. I would keep a diary and see your PCP sooner rather than later
