Lupron generated hot flashes: Any tips on how to manage them?

Posted by alwayspositive92 @alwayspositive92, Jul 3, 2023

Nearing completion of 18 months lupron hormone treatment along with EBR.
Side effects so far manageable but intense hot flashes along with severe and deep bone pain are 'pushing the envelope'. Any suggestions on natural based coping stategies. Want to avoid any further drug based treatment if possible.

Thank you for this. Magnesium sounds promising. Appreciate your response.

My husbands doctor told him he couldn’t take any vitamins at all except for a calcium/magnesium supplement he recommended. Did your dr ok the vitamins you take?

REPLY

Yes, my oncologist has made the calcium supplement and the vitamin D supplement a regular part of my on-going cancer treatment.

I can’t imagine how a standard multivitamin supplement is going to be harmful while being treated for prostate cancer! I take additional calcium, magnesium and zinc tablet, along with one multivitamin every day, and I am still hanging in there 12 years later!

It’s always good to check with your own oncologist before taking supplements, vitamins, CBD, or complementary therapies. Everyone is different and the guidance will be tailored for you and the treatments you are getting.

All good comments and several I'll check out.
I'm 18 months post RARP and on Lupron that gives me some hefty hot flashes. My family doc first ok'ed paroxetine (it has similar effects as Zoloft so can't take both at same time).
And my oncologist was ok as well.
It doesn't stop the hot flashes but it does for me reduce the frequency and kind of tones down the events that do happen.
Might be another med for you but consider it.
BTW, my PSA has been running negligible so I'm on schedule to suspend the Lupron in about 6-months. Yeah!
Good luck my friend.

On ADH over 5 years! No more hot f I also take a low dose of Paxil, and it worked for me quite well.

Thank you. I appreciate your input.
By the time the lupron begins to dissipate (probably early in 2024) I may begin to notice some improvement. My PSA numbers also are under control so hoping this is a positive indicator that treatments are working. Scheduled oncologist appointment in September so will get his take too.
Thanks again.
