Lung cancer surgery: How much time until I heal?

Hi there. My husband had a lobectomy in mid June. His recovery went well and we went from the Midwest out to the mountains in Colorado about a month later. He did some hiking and biking without much trouble. So depending on your health and activity level pre surgery- in our experience it was totally doable. Wishing you well.

I had a lower left lobectomy with a chest tube for three weeks after and pneumonia in my left lung and still felt well enough to go on a 3 day camping trip at 5 weeks out. Did not have all of my stamina back but felt pretty good. Best of luck to you! I hope this helps.

Welcome to our group @ grandmasheri. I too a trip to Paris and climbed all over the place after one of my surgeries. But another one really slowed me down. I think that it will depend on you. If I were you I would take out travel insurance. If you feel fine, go for it. If not then you can cancel it and not have to pay.

@grandmasheri, I'm thinking about you as you prepare for surgery in a couple of days. I'm confident that @merpreb @felix536 @corgimenow appreciate your gratitude for the support they've offered. It helps to be able to pay it forward as I know you will to the next person who posts here.

But back to you, Sheri. Did you have a pleasant Thanksgiving? Any questions you'd like to ask before Nov 30? Oh, I'll offer one piece of advice - bring an extension cord or long charger for your phone. That way I hope you can stay connected as you heal. 🙂

Yes I had a nice thanksgiving, I went to my moms and I saw my grandkids that are there in her town. Getting preop testing today. I think all my questions have been answered except will I have mobility problems?

I am late to this discussion....I had lll removed and pushed myself to get back into the best physical shape I could be and it took me some time (I was 75 yo and a zumba instructor) but not as long as I thought. How? Walk, walk, walk and did I say walk? Well, walk. Cold climate? Go to a Mall ....Did I say walk?
This is a few weeks later so I hope you are recovering...All that walking said, if you do take that trip leave yourself some rest time each day though. And High altitudes might be hard to deal with.....
I agree with Merry re travel insurance.....it's a good idea....and mobility problems? Nope. They will have you up and walking the halls within hours of the surgery.
