Renal small cell carcinoma has spread to the lungs

Posted by doublecancer @doublecancer, Jul 26, 2023

Small cell carcinoma in left kidney in 2018. Removed, then chemo. Fortunately lung was clear then. Now, showing growing spots in lungs. Follow up Cat Scan Sept11. This was second stage IV cancer. Non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma three years in 1980’s, culminating in Bone Marrow Transplant. Getting emotionally drained

Hi @doublecancer, I want to connect you with other members with a similar diagnosis. Let me see if I've got your cancer story correct.
Your first primary cancer was NHL for which you had BMT.
Your second cancer was also a primary cancer small cell kidney cancer.

Now they have discovered lesions on your lungs. This is metastasis from the kidney cancer, which has been newly staged as stage IV.

Do I have that right?

Yes. You have it exactly right.

@doublecancer, You’ve certainly had more than your share of cancers! I’ll be interested to hear how much the lesions have changed after you have the next scan. If they are calling them lesions, not nodules or masses, that may be a good sign. It may be very early and slow growing. But I’m sorry to hear that you are facing yet another difficult diagnosis. The emotional weight of a stage IV diagnosis can be devastating. Do you feel that you have a good support system? Has your oncologists office offered any emotional support services?
