Anyone have Mastopexy (Breast Lift Surgery) after Lumpectomy?

Posted by taprep @taprep, Sep 28, 2023

Hi I am under 45 and diagnosed with ICD stage 1. I have Lumpectomy scheduled and was recommended to have breast lift 2 weeks after lumpectomy to fix the dent that I will have after the surgery and the radiation. Anyone did breast lift-Mastopexy (no reduction just lift) after lumpectomy and before radiation. I am not sure if should go through another surgery -breast lift at the same time don’t want to regret that. Any thoughts on that.

Hi, I recently had my reconstruction. Unfortunately my lumpectomy was not a small incision. It totally changed the shape of my breast. Almost 3 years later, this summer I had fat injected into the radiated breast and lifted. My healthy breast was reduced and lifted. Honestly my radiated breast breast looks the best. The healthy breast is larger and not lifted as well. But at 66 I am not going to have any additional surgery. They look so much better than they did. The plus was the fat was taken from my lower tummy. I elected to have a mini tummy tuck to get rid of my excessive skin. I have lost over 90 pounds over the past few years.
I wish you luck. You are 20 years younger than I am. So you have youth on your side!

Thanks for your response. I am not sure for now how big will be my incision. Surgeon only gave the option of breast lift to me after 2 weeks of surgery.
Little worried about the complete process of lumpectomy then lift surgery, radiation and Tamoxifen.

Have you had the lumpectomy yet? If not, why would the surgeon not wait and see how your breast looks afterwards before suggesting another surgery? Maybe it won’t be needed at all?
I had a Lumpectomy on August 1st and the tumor and tissue taken out was about the size of a lemon. I also just had additional tissue taken out, 2 days ago, and my breast shape looks the same. Hopefully you will luck out and won’t need a lift at all!
Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!

At the time of my bilateral lumpectomies just over two years ago, a plastic surgeon worked with the oncology surgeon, to remove old implants and do a reconstruction. The lumpectomies and reconstruction were done during the same surgery which meant no additional surgery later.

My recovery went very well for me. And the five days of radiation gave me an even nicer little breast lift.

I wear bras that allow for a small prosthesis to be inserted to round out the hollow left from the lumpectomies. I feel very pleased with the final results. I wish you well on your journey.

Thanks a lot for that reply, that’s exactly was I was thinking. My lumpectomy is in 10 days. Will I be able to know that in 2 weeks after lumpectomy if I need another surgery or I will be good without it (will there be swelling after lumpectomy ) The surgeon said he will prefer doing lift surgery before radiation they have scheduled lift surgery 2 weeks after lumpectomy.

I would definitely question the lift surgery. I had used a surgeon for my first 2 surgeries and after having some issues, I got a second opinion and had my most recent surgery with the new surgeon and am so thankful I did.
I would really encourage you to get a second opinion, before your Lumpectomy.
You will probably have some swelling after the Lumpectomy, but it shouldn’t be too much.
It is really odd to me that this surgeon already has a 2nd surgery scheduled for you without seeing the result of the Lumpectomy.

Thanks, the surgeon wants to wait for clear lab report after lumpectomy so they don’t want to do both surgeries together.

As you told there wouldn’t be much swelling so in 2 weeks I should be able to decide how it will look, I hope I will not need the lift.
I will also check with my surgeon the amount of tissue that will be removed.
Thanks a lot for your response.
