Low Sodium Level

I use lots of salt and moderate water. Anyone knows why? Please comment.

In one of your other discussions you mentioned that you sweat a lot. That might have something to do with using lots of salt? When I was in the Navy and spent some time in a boiler room, we had to take salt tablets and drink a lot of water due to sweating so much.

I’ve had low sodium levels for the past ten years, and was prescribed Sodium chloride pills to take in a daily basis. at times, it took 4 pills or more to get my sodium level up to low normal. I restrict my fluid intake each day also. The only side effect that I have is elevated blood pressure which is being monitored carefully by my cardiologist.

Low sodium levels are normal in older people because many have health problems and take medications. My levels (at age 83) have always been borderline. …low normal. Instead of buying sodium tablets I occasionally add some salt to water with lemon juice and gulp that down in the morning especially in the hot humid Florida weather and when I go to my gym classes.
I do try not to limit water because I feel it’s essential to keep hydrated also. I drink this instead of buying electrolyte beverages. You can goggle some of the physical manifestations of very low levels.

Mary, maybe your sodium is low because you're eating fewer octopus.
Mine is a bit low at times because of my seizure medicine.
My doctor said to add some salt to my food, that sloves the problem. I don't cut down on fluids either.

I think you can, but I don’t think it’s covered by insurance and could be very expensive.

Water is very essential to overall health, but too much total fluid flushes out too many needed electrolytes and retains too much water in cells and other organs. So, I try to include all fluids (soup, juice, etc, especially coffee) and generally stay under 40 - 45 oz a day. My Sodium Chloride pills are a Prescription drug.

Thank you.
Do you feel ok on this regime?
Are the prescription salt pills buffered? If I don't have buffered . the pills make me very nauseous.
i take seven (500mg)
Salt pills a day.
