Low glucose events suddenly

For 2 or more years, my Freestyle libre never went to a Low glucose event, ever! Freestyle libre 2 now I have 3 or 4 a day that just dip below to 3.0 3.8 or .9 and back up. Often when I am asleep. Any suggestions/?

This might not be applicable to you. I use a DexcomG6 continual glucose monitor (CGM). I have found that on a sensor change day it is common for me to to get low readings. Sometimes this lasts 24 - 72 hours. At first I would immediately treat the low and would inevitably rebound high. After a substantial amount of frustration I learned to first confirm the low reading by doing a finger stick with a glucometer before treating the low. This is how I learned that in those 24 - 72 hours the CGM isn’t always reliable. I’m not sure if this applies to your Freestyle Libre or not but might be something to consider?

Another possibility for an increase in low readings can be seasonal & / or weather related. After nearly 50 years of diabetes I’ve learned to expect more low blood sugars in the spring when things begin to warm up. I frequently require an insulin dose adjustment. In the fall the opposite happens. As things cool down it seems like my wonky diabetic metabolism slows down and I will have more high blood sugars. Then I need another insulin dose adjustment for that. This year the seasons and weather has been unseasonably weird. Again just something to consider?

@jdiakiw, i used to use the Libre 2 also. and it would drop at night when i slept. i came to find out from my Endo that if i slept on my arm with censor it would drop also. then i'd take 2 glucose gummies to get it back up. but then next morning it would have rebounded high. but now that i'm using the Dexcom G7, i don't have these issues. maybe once every two months.

Do you ever do a "reality check" with a regular glucometer to see whether the low event reading is accurate?

I think it's great that we have these tools available, but I think tools are for us to use, not be used by them.

no matter what type of diabetic device you have ALWAYS double check your glucose. even a regular glucose meter. that's what keeps you out of trouble.
