Loss horse voice
I have loss my voice after a bad cold and cough. My loss voice is going on three weeks. I continue to have a cough but much better. Most of my cold symptoms have been cleared up by antibiotics. I’m doing a second round but I don’t think I have a sinus infection anymore. My doctor says it could take 3 or 4 more weeks. I like my doctor but I am a teacher and need to talk. A little frustrating but I also realize this is a small problem compared to what others are dealing with. Any advice?

Hello @jelsener. I have not experienced such a prolonged hoarseness and cough. My sister tends to have this happen, though, and is usually prescribed a short course of an oral steroid ( a cortisone like Prednisone). It usually helps her to get ahead of the cough. There are OTC nasal sprays with a steroid Fluticasone like Flonase that help quiet nasal congestion. I wonder if that could help your issue by absorption thru the nasal cavity? You could call and ask your doctor about a script for oral cortisone. Good luck with this. A teacher with no voice is a tough situation!
Thanks I will check with my doctor. Actually I think the kids like me better
Hi!
I would suggest gargling with hot salt water or Listerine, the original formula. I have lost my voice several times in years past and both worked well for me. Also they worked well for my husband when he had lung cancer and became hoarse. Another thing you might do is research the side effects of all of your medications. Some of them can cause hoarseness. There were a few of the medications that my husband was taking that had these side effects. I pointed this out to the doctor and he stopped those medications for my husband and the hoarseness went away.
I wish you the best. I'm sure the kids miss you!
