Loose stools

Posted by messygirl @messygirl, Sat, Jun 29 5:14pm

So i have been getting loose stools since 3 years now and it all started when i travelled to and fro and eating food from the outside. I consulted doctor and took medications but it still continued. I see that the consistency and frequency has quite reduced now but i still get loose stools twice per day. Sometimes i also feel mild lower abdominal pain and rectal pain ( more like a discomfort) while taking poop. I get no stomach pains or so nor do i loose weight. I have been stressed too for quite long and this is making me feel more stressed. Can someone give the right cause please? Much appreciated

@messygirl Your symptoms sound pretty much identical to mine, and my problem turned out to be lactose intolerance. I'm not saying you have that, but it does sound like something you eat regularly is causing this. Your best bet would be to try an elimination diet and see if that helps.

I also had little pain or discomfort, just the loose stools and very bad smelling gas. Since eliminating dairy I rarely have a problem. I had a minor one today and I think something I ate must have some lactose hidden in it. The only thing I can think of is coleslaw but I never thought that had any dairy in it. I do get a bit of help if I take Imodium. It's not perfect but it's better than anything else I have tried. Lactaid is of no help.

I’m so confused on all of the different paths to try to stop the chronic ribs to the bathroom. Test after test and finally one is positive. Fructose malabsorption. Very high intolerance. My elimination diet 10 days now isn’t changing much of anything. Lists of can have can’t have is so hard and low FODMAP Foods Vs High FODMAP Nothing says eliminate dairy which I don’t do except 1/2 and 1/2 very little in am. Can hv some sugars etc. yet still in bathroom 1 to 2 x a day. I’m hardly eating now afraid of reaction with nausea gas upper stomach pain. Etc I’m not celiac no Crohns no bowel disease so why is wheat needed to be stopped on fructose elimination I love salads too and they just cause so much discomfort. I just want things to turn around. No meds. No probiotics no enzymes by doctor Just diet. I eat totally plain and not much different just yet Thanks for letting me vent

Do you have IBS or ?? Yes the Low FODMAP diet is a real drag but better than the alternative—at least for me. My understanding is that many IBS sufferers (including me) are lactose intolerant or at least lactose sensitive. There are many good lactose free and low lactose products available. And the Lactaid type tablets work well for me. Just be sure you buy those without additives like mannitol which with IBS can cause symptoms. I get them at Costco. Buy the tablets not the chewables and you may need to take two at a time.

And yeah i was so worried i thought i might have any type of STD that is causing loose stools but that thing is i have never been involved in sexual activities, am aware that sounds stupid but could that ever happen in my case? The stress is making me think about unnecessary stuff.

Thank you for the info.
I wanted to get an opinion on this because my loose stools which happened after travelling is making me dig deeper about stuff and making me anxious.

I travelled to an asian country and i know they are not the most hygienic. I started having diarrhea after i ate something from a restaurant as far as i remember and then i consulted the doctor and took meds. I got fine after medication but i started having loose stools again after 3 or 4 days. I dont remember exactly all of it as it was way back but i think it all started because of water or the food. My bowels were so normal before and i never thought i would suffer from something like this. I feel i get depressed at times and i having been very stressed since after i travelled due to some personal issues and also am scared to get myself tested as something could go wrong. But i see that my loose stools have subsided gradually and i have 2 or sometimes 3 stools per day but the urgency makes it annoying.People say i might have some parasitic infections as it is a developing country. But do they even last that long like for 2 to 3 years?

Absolutely you need to get checked for parasites. Why be afraid? Please insist on it. It is usually done by still samples.

@messygirl, I'm bringing @travelgirl into this conversation. She got H. pylori from her travels and may have some thoughts for you.

@messygirl I would like to reccomend you get checked for H -Pylori .. I caught that traveling somewhere in the world. God knows which I went to several places, China, Costa Rica, El Salvadore to mention a few.
I had severe acid reflux with it, and bouts of diarrhea along with stomach issues.
Add rice and bananas to your diet to help with your diarrhea..
Sometimes you need a double dose of medication to get rid of this bug. Its miserable..

Wishing you the best
Jackie

Yes i thought of several stomach infections but then i saw i no longer had bouts of diarrhea and now i just get stools 2 times a day but the consistency is still loose and that's what bothers me but it seemed like it iss way better now than it used to be. I felt like it might be an after effect of any infection but not sure about it. Thank you for the advice
