Looking for affordable hotel recommendations for Mayo, Rochester
Hi all!
First-time Mayo Clinic patient here. I was told to plan a 5–7 day stay. Looking for lodging that’s affordable, clean and safe. Not fancy, just comfortable and not sketchy.
Any recommendations are appreciated!
Thank you!
Amy

@timefliesby, good recommendations! The convenience of connecting via the subway is not to be underestimated, especially in the Minnesota winter. May I ask what brought you to Mayo Clinic?

I am right there with you on the blessings of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic at Mayo.
My first visit sealed the deal for me, and I knew deep down in my hypertrophic heart, I was in the right place.
Especially after being misdiagnosed, and treated for several conditions in my home town. My cardiologist actually recommended open heart surgery locally, for something I didn't have...I can't imagine what may have happened if I had not sought a second and third opinion!
I've been to Rochester three times, and stayed at three different places.
Do you have a favorite place you stay that you can share with others?
Have you read any of the stories from the HCM group that @colleenyoung shared with you?

I have stomach cancer.
Dr. Kendrick is/will be my surgen.
I will be visiting Mayo again, middle of March.
Final evaluation; tumor size, distance from esophagus, before surgery April 14.
I feel very fortunate, my tumor has shrunk significantly.
Feel blessed for the quality of care I have received from Mayo and MN Oncology.
Im happy to know, my suggestion of hotel worked well for you.

1 ReactionI wanted to follow up on my request for hotel recommendations. I had intended to stay at the same hotel for the duration of my 3 day stay; however, my experience with the Centerstone Hotel was so awful that I stayed one night and checked out the next day. I decided to book there because of the on-call shuttle and the restaurant. To make a very long story short, I checked in to the main building at the Centerstone Hotel. My room had an extremely strong mildewy smell. Management gave me another room, but it still had a strong odor. I checked out in the morning. I checked into the Hyatt House; their room was wonderful. So a huge thumbs down for Centerstone and thumbs up for Hyatt House.
I was so pleasantly surprised by my experience at Mayo. Everyone there was kind, concerned about my comfort, and helpful. The Help Desk, various technicians, the doctor, and the support staff were wonderful. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see much of Rochester, but if the staff at Mayo are any indication, it must be a lovely place to live.

2 ReactionsGoing back for the third time in a couple weeks. A friend who has been to Mayo a lot recommended the Aspen Suites. It is right across the street from St Marys so very handy if you will be going there. Good shuttle service to downtown campus. VERY reasonable. Very accommodating if your schedule changes.

1 ReactionIt has been several years but we always found the Marriott SpringHill suites (on the shuttle bus route) directly across from St. Mary's Domitilla Bldg quite comfortable and reasonable or the Koehler Inn and Suites with subway access to Mayo also most accommodating.
