Looking for a good dentist who knows about MM in Cleveland Ohio!
Hi I have Multiple Myeloma and need to find a dentist familiar with MM. I'm on the west side of Cleveland Ohio. I was told my upper teeth are loose and I did see a Dentist and he said he would put 2 crowns on my teeth, I was amazed if my teeth are loose why put crowns on them. I think it's all for the money! I have also asked the ADA and they just give me a site to look for my own but I want one that jnows about cancer and MM.

Hi @ancopau1998. Having multiple myeloma can bring extra challenges to keeping your bones and teeth healthy. The disease itself causes osteoporosis and weakening of the bones. So it’s not unusual for teeth to become impacted by this loss of bone. You’re right, it makes no sense to put crowns on loose teeth…unless there is some thought of stabilization. But if there’s severe loss that will be temporary at best.
It’s vital to have regular cleanings and checkups. Most likely 3 or more times per year unless everything looks healthy and stable.
I’m not familiar at all with Cleveland but I did look up a few dental clinics in the area. Several seemed to have very high ratings from patients. Essentially, I looked on Google maps for dentists. And then went down the list to check out and read patient reviews. If the dental office is well run and the doctor/staff are in tune with their patience, chances are they are also current with continued education and will do due diligence to make sure you receive the best care.
Our office was like that but we were in Wisconsin so that’s no help to you. We treated several cancer patients, finding out what was required for each of them per their special needs.
I’m not sure how you’d find out if a dentist is familiar with cancer patients and especially MM unless you call around.
You could check in with an Oral and maxillofacial surgical office in Cleveland. They might be able to steer you towards a dental clinic they feel is merited.
Are you on any bone building medications? Are you being treated for your MM?
