Long Covid Hypertension

Posted by kitty2 @kitty2, Dec 12, 2024

Good morning..I have had Hypertension since having Covid..my numbers in the 200 ' s since my 2nd round of Covid . Scary high and I sure do not want to have a stroke. As you all know , tests are do not show why this could be going on. I had a Nuclear stress test and an Echocardiogram last week, and I have a Zio heart monitor on for another week. I take Losartan 75 mgs and my primary had me increase it to 100 mgs last night to see if we could get this down. I was told by the cardiologist nurse triage to go to the ER, but when I have they just send me home and tell me they can not treat this issue, my primary has to treat this. Anyone else have some input on this after Covid? I have had Covid three times, and the latest in September. Thanks for any help or information you can give. I have fainted several times from the high blood pressures and being diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension. Thank you.

Yes, I can relate. After Covid my BP became very high like yours. Never had high BP in my life. Drs. have tried 5 different meds. I now wear a Clonidine patch for 7 days and change it on the 7th day. Also take a Clonidine pill when it spikes too high. Just recently after wearing a Zio patch found out I have Arrythmia. This has been going on for 2 years. I feel like I am going crazy. I see my cardiologist Dec. 16th to discus options. I will try to keep in touch with you. As I have said before this is an evil virus!

It’s a LC symptom I would like to find more research about. High BP was the first symptom that continued from the actual Covid infection about 4 years 9 months ago…morphed to having high HR, and despite having 5 simultaneous hypertensive drugs never went down to the regular 120/70 I did have. Then this last Jan.got diagnosed with ‘postural hypotension’ of 61/40 at tilt table test, so spent the year removing hypertensives: the first to go was the beta blocker, bisoprolol, and one switched from am to pm. Was taken off Indapimide which seems a good idea as the dysautonomia syncope seemed to coincide with taking it, but then 2-3 weeks into removal my BP would go up to 180/80, so back on it by next day it would go back to 128/70 but not stay at that…changes from day to day, am to pm, by 40 systolic units. Ecgs, echocardiogram, chest X-rays etc show no problem. I even started swimming 50 mins 5 x a week 20 months ago, on the principle I might have become deconditioned and cardiovascular system effected… but not obviously improved BP. Also tried the various vitamin/ mineral etc recommendations like ferritin, vits D and Bs…no difference. I’d be interested if your cardio . suggests anything.

Omg. I had to look 3 times to make sure this post wasn't from me. I was totally dismissed at ER, when i finally got in to see a primary care, i was given a psych eval referral, misprescribed a bp med, placed on 3 bp meds, bp still 180s. Previously super healthy, suddenly unable to walk across the room. Had to insist on cardiology consult with minimal help initially. Noone believed me, that i had been healthy, now really this sick. One year later some better, finally help with bp on a calcium channel blocker. Still feel like i need beta blocker (carvedilol). Taking a handful of supplements and senolytic fisetin.

Hi..thanks for your reply...your reply sounds like me. The emergency rooms send you home..wont treat you..they wanted me to go to the er the other day, I said no because they wont treat you...this is all because of the three covid infections I have had. My blood pressure on wednesday was 221/101..that was one of them. I called my primary , he said to take another 25 mg of losartan..that is now 100 mgs, its coming down a bit but still high. Yesterday it was 159/95. Better than what it was. They just don't know what to do with us. How are you now? I am in a long covid study but you don't find out the results of the tests. I was referred yesterday to a neurologist that specializes in autonomic disorders . Keep me posted.

Good morning..did you have the ZIO patch? I have one on now and it comes off on the 19th. This is all too frustrating. My primary has me taking 100 mgs of Lorsartan. After I take it , it puts me to sleep. I am so out , that I have to take it in the evening. What does the Clonidine patch do for you? This has been going on for several years , I had Covid last year at this time and fainted twice, once in the driveway and hit my head on the pavement resulting in a concussion , a TBI and broken nose, then in June it happened at work injuring my leg, but of course they know I have this long covid, so I did not get any work comp. My blood pressure is out of control, seen different doctors , had tests but nothing works for me. We will see if the zio comes up with anything. Thanks for reaching out to me. This is a evil virus. Please keep in touch.

Good morning..thanks for your reply. I have a Zio monitor on, it comes off on Wednesday the 19th, They said I had orthostatic hypotension in March when I fainted in my driveway and hit my head. My insurance would not pay for a tilt table test, they said it was not medically necessary. So I have never had a positive test result. I have tried to get back into mayo clinic again , but they are refusing my requests, twice I tried . I went down there after my first Covid round in 2022, 2023. now they say no. I just had a echo and a Nuclear stress test, but as you know they said there was no sign of induced ischemia. So we go on with this syndrome, they do not know what to do with all of us. We all know that we did not experience all this stuff before we had this evil virus. Some people treat me like I have the plague and I know my employer is trying to get rid of me cause I am a liability. Have a good day and please stay in touch. We all have to stick together.

My BP also out of control since 2022 after having Covid. Been on 5 different meds including Losartan, Valsartan and many others. The Zio patch confirmed I have Arrythmia. I don't know what kind. I see my doctor tomorrow and find out more. He prescribed Amiodarone 100mg. Starting to have side effects already. This virus seems to go anywhere in our bodies. I do think it is very evil and meant to destroy us. I will keep in touch.

I did see the doctor on the 16th. He said the Arrythmia I have is related to my heart rate, pulse. He prescribed 100mg Amiodarone. I take it Mon. Wed. and Fri. It has many side effects but he said don't read them. Can you believe that? I'm on Synthroid for my thyroid and it does effect that. I go back in 4 weeks for another Zio patch to see if there is any improvement. Meanwhile my BP is off the charts again Don't know if the med. is causing that but I know he will say it isn't. I really don't know what to do any more. This virus gets more evil every day!

I’m a Long Covid hypertensive 5 meds.personally too…surprised your GP hasn’t insisted it’s your ‘overmedication on Levothyroxine’ ( swop for Synthroid) causing your high HR like mine did…so had to go done route of reducing much needed thyroid hormones just to prove it wasn’t and get a endocrinologist to confirm he was wrong! I’ve been swimming 5x a week 50 mins for last 21 months and even more exercise hasn’t effected BP/HR…do wonder whether it might be some interactions between all these drugs that are causing some of the problems as hard to believe I can be 180/80 one day and 95/60 the next! I do have postural hypotension with tilt table test ( 61/40), I can only test seated at home!

I stopped taking Amiodarone. Horrible side effects. Haven't let my Dr. know yet. He won't be pleased but I'll know Monday when I call him. So tired of meds that do nothing or have so many side effects. Since getting long Covid I think my body has become toxic.
