Where to stay while having radiation at Mayo Clinic Rochester?

Posted by merrijohnson @merrijohnson, Aug 23, 2019

We are looking for lodging/housing for my brother & family while he undergoes 6 weeks of chemo/radiation at Mayo. We were told by his doctor that free lodging is available for patients receiving radiation, but we aren't having any success in finding any. Any advice is appreciated.

@desip, many hospitals have free lodging for cancer patients. Are you having radiation at Mayo Clinic? If yes, which location?

Hi @1hockeyjeff I see you’re coming to Rochester for several months while undergoing treatment at Mayo.

Earlier this summer another member, @lag630 and her husband, had a similar situaion where they needed longterm lodging and wanted to bring their furry family members along with them. They had found a small home to rent near campus that allowed pets. I’m hoping she’ll be able to chime in and give you a suggestion or two.

Have you tried the Conceirge desk at Mayo? They are very helpful in finding accommodations. Here’s their information;

Hello @1hockeyjeff, Welcome to Connect. I'm not sure about the pets but I think @artscaping may have more information on the Sandra J. Schulze American Cancer Society Hope Lodge—
Rochester, MN - https://www.cancer.org/support-programs-and-services/patient-lodging/hope-lodge/rochester-mn/about-our-facility.html

You might want to give them a call. How soon is your treatment?

Hello, I will be having radiation for TNBC soon at Mayo Clinic Rochester. I had read somewhere on the Connect site of someone owning a condo in Rochester and may rent it out to patients during radiation therapy. I live in Iowa so I don’t want to travel back and forth every day. During chemo it was not bad driving every week.
Would appreciate any information in advance.

Hello
I had radiation in Rochester and stayed at the Hope House free of charge for 5 weeks.
Amazing people, I walked to treatment every morning and worked remote from my room.
Met amazing people on a similar journey.
The Hope house is not determined on income and I so appreciated the beautiful courageous people I met while I was there.
I used the time to rest, heal, and retreat. 5 weeks can be a long time away from your home and loved ones. The Hope House took many stresses away and was on the Mayo campus!
Tremendous community of volunteers and people.
Cancer clear 6-22

We stayed t Hope Lodge while I had 5 weeks radiation. We were able to go home weekends since we live 2 hrs away in Iowa. We enjoyed getting to know others on the same journey and still keep in touch with a couple.
