What was your liver resection surgery like? (Bile Duct Cancer)

Posted by tball3748 @tball3748, Feb 3, 2022

I’m hoping that my next MRI will show tumor shrinkage which is my ticket back to Mayo with Dr. Smoot for a liver resection surgery. Has anyone had Smoot do their resection? What method did he use for you? Laparoscopic?

Fingers crossed, @tball3748 that the MRI will show shrinkage. I think fellow cholangiocarcinoma members like @summer83 @pkindron @tearose @lberg @jerrydrennan @lisamb @mngardenaddict @clarke6 may have surgery experiences to share with you.

Tball, do you know if your surgery will be done laparoscopically? What other questions do you have about surgery?

That’s what I was hoping to see if Dr. Smoot generally does laparoscopic or not.

I didn't have Dr. Smoot as my surgeon, but rather Dr. Cleary. When my resection was done, I ended up with a maybe 4-inch vertical scar that goes around my belly button. My grandkids thought that was funny. It's been a while since I had mine done (2018), but if I recall correctly, I spent two nights in the hospital.

I am recovering from cholangiocarcinoma and liver transplant 6/22/18 and would offer any details that one would seek from my experience. Best of luck to all.

Thanks @lisamb and @mngardenaddict. @tball3748 was wondering if you had experience with laparoscopic surgery. What tips might you offer to prepare her for surgery? Any tips to help with recovery?
