Liver Mets treatment options for carcinoid NET

Posted by seesspotz @seesspotz, 13 hours ago

Hello, I was diagnosed with liver mets from ileocecal primary. I am scheduled for primary site removal next month, but the liver is still undecided. My NET team has reviewed several options of TACE, PRRT, and possible future transplant. Currently cytoreduction is not an option due to total involvement. I am in the process of seeking a second opinion. I’m only 46 and still have kids at home. Needing the best option for quantity and quality of life. I would appreciate hearing some experiences.

@seesspotz Hi and welcome to Mayo Connect. I was diagnosed with a pancreatic NET that has spread primarily to my liver in 8/22. Due to the spread, surgery was not an option. I have been living on chemo ever since. It is great that you are seeing a NET specialist. It appears that your ileocecal primary and liver metastasis are being treated separately. Am I understanding things correctly? Thanks.

@seesspotz: I relate to you feeling frustrated. Learning your NET primary has metastasized and diagnosis has tagged “stage 4” hits you in the gut. I hope they also included that most NET tumors are usually slow growing and when you meet with a NET Specialist Medical Oncologist you will find an ally with much experience in treating our tumors. Please seek out answers to concerns and support from the many NET online groups that offer zoom meetings, u-tube videos of experts in NET treatment, and peer response to your situation. We are here… you are not alone on this journey. Best…
