Does anyone have any recipe recommendations for a patient who has liver cirrhosis?

Thank you! And yes it is very difficult. I’m officially on the gluten-free train so that makes it difficult as well.

Hi, @kristinanicole2002, Welcome to Connect.
I developed cirrhosis due to a liver disease that resulted in a transplant in 2009. When I was first diagnosed, my gastroenterologist (GI) told me to eat a heart healthy diet and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A Mediterranean, as @parrot53 suggested is a good one. I am a simple cook, and so I concentrated on making healthy adjustments to my regular recipes be cutting back on things like fats, salt, and sugars. I added vegetables to meals and kept fresh fruit as my go-to snack.

Here is information about Cirrhosis from Mayo Clinic Health Library>Diseases and Conditions:
- Choose a diet that's full of fruits and vegetables. Select whole grains and lean sources of protein. Cut down on the amount of fatty and fried foods you eat.
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Do not drink alcohol.
-Avoid over-the-counter medicines and consult with your doctor before taking any vitamins, herbs, and supplements

How did you learn about your cirrhosis diagnosis? Are you having any symptoms? Is your doctor following your progression with labs?

How are you doing with your nutrition and health? Have you considered consulting a nutritionist?

I have but I don’t have any appointments until the end of the month. Does anyone know if there’s any type of seasoning that isn’t salt but tastes kind of like salt?

@kristinanicole2002, I was advised to limit my salt intake rather than use a salt substitute because some ingredients in salt substitutes can be harmful to the liver in patients with liver disease. For me this meant to read labels, avoid processed foods, and to get rid of the salt shaker. I also cut back on the salt in recipes.

Here is information that explains more about salt substitutes: -

.
Kristinanicole, Be sure to check out the additional links that are listed to other related Mayo Clinic Minutes like: Is salt sneaking into your diet? and Flavorful ways to reduce salt in your diet.

Do any of these sound like something you can apply to your diet?

Nothing seems to fix constipation. In Miami colonoscopies are usually forbidden in over 75 age. Internal hemorrhoids could cause blockage?
