limited bladder capacity with frequent urgency

Posted by ellerbracke @ellerbracke, Jun 18, 2023

Relative has persistent issues with urgent bladder with very limited measured output/capacity. Max. 7 oz. No finding of any disease. Very disruptive to have to “go” once per hour. Treatment, such as it is (cath., meds). Any suggestions how to effectively train/enlarge capacity of bladder (while still holding down a job with limited bathroom breaks?)

Your relative may have bladder prolapse but needs to be evaluated by a doctor or nurse practitioner who specializes in urology/gynecology . A bladder prolapse causes frequent urges and can also limit the flow of urine. There is an operation for this but a great fix is the use of a pessary that will hold up the bladder. She would have to be fitted for the correct style and comfort. I have one and it is a game changer. She can try them in the Doctor’s office. And yes, there are pelvic floor exercises that may help over time. Many years ago I tried a medication that was suppose to stop the urges and essentially dry you up…..it also gave me dry mouth and eyes so that didn’t last long.

But this information is just about a possible bladder prolapse so….she needs a diagnosis first.
