Life long antibiotics after knee repacement
I had double knee replacement and 11 years later developed a severe staph infection in one knee. I had a clean out surgery and a yr later a second total replacement. After another later I am taking still taking antibiotics daily. It looks like I will be taking them for the rest of my life.
I am wondering if anyone has experience with life long antibiotics and what side effects especially gastric issues people have encountered.

The antibiotic issue is interesting. Having just taken a lot of different antibiotics, I can say that a couple of them caused constipation and I quickly learned to take them with a stool softener, and the others didn't bother me at all, but we can have different reactions. Doctors are careful about giving too much of an antibiotic because infections become resistant to them. In my case, I seem to have had a possibly decades long chronic sinus infection that lingered because I never got enough antibiotic to kill it. Finally an ENT spotted the source, and prescribed a 21-day dose, and suddenly I realized that hadn't even known what being infection-free felt like. To shorten the story, circumstances led to me taking antibiotic 4 more times shortly after that, and the doctors gave me different ones to lower the risk of developing resistance. As for the dental issue, my TKR surgeon said I needed antibiotic for dental work for 6-months following surgery. My dentist had believed it should be a year, but went with the 6-months. An endodontist I saw said it should be 2-years, and prescribed it accordingly.
