Lichen Planus - Labial adhesions. Any connection

Posted by fdixon63 @fdixon63, 3 days ago

I've had the autoimmune condition, lichen planus, for 25-30 years and feel this could be causing labial adhesions. Surgery scheduled in a few weeks to "open me up." Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering about surgery and recovery. Also can this reoccur? Thanks.

Lichen planus is not uncommon in the vulvar- vaginal area. It can present a different appearance that may not be as readily diagnosed as when seen elsewhere.
There are instances with a mixed overlap with lichen
sclerosis.
There should be a surgical tissue specimen that will be
helpful in answering the cause. Treatment of both conditions is often topical steroids which may help prevent recurrence. Continue to co manage follow ups
with your dermatologist and gynecology surgeon.

Hello fdixon. I am sorry you have to experience this. The tissue breakdown is painful, and can seed UTIs, GP strep infections, and more. These can get serious very fast. There is a product you can ask your Gynecologist and dermatologist about. Its called Strata MGT. You have to order it. It is a semipermeable membrane that coats the tissues specific to that area so healing can happen. Also ask about lidocaine spray for pain control. Good luck with your surgery!!!

Thanks for the knowledgeable responses. I did check Amazon for the Strata MGT and checked my insurance. It is not covered by insurance and indications are it is not a prescription med. It must be wonderful however at $60 for a 1 oz tube. Faye

I have oral LP. I've been on cortisone for something else tjo but my mouth ends up with no sores at all. Maybe ask if a tiny ongoing dose might help. Helps me when I use it and I've read that many end up doing this. Course orally, I can also swish prednisolone. Helps less but its something. If its so expensive for so little, I lottle must go a long day or its meant for a smaller area? Not everything works on mucous membranes.
