Left Sciatica/spinal stenosis

Posted by cindymattern @cindymattern, 1 day ago

I have many of the symptoms and feel my stenosis is worse. Calf cramps, pain on the top of my foot and heal, knee pain and lower left hip hurts. Can't stand for long periods and walking long or sitting can set it off. I really do not want any surgery and haven't seen ortho yet (Appt. Thursday but expecting weather). Has anyone else had any suggest with any medications other than Nsaids that I can't take. Pain meds do nothing either for it. Thanks in advance.

@cindymattern Sometimes physical therapy can help a spine condition. It won't fix stenosis, but it can add core strength or loosen tight areas that may be aggravating nerves. I did a lot of PT and special hands-on stretching called myofascial release. I did eventually have a cervical spinal fusion, but this technique was buying me time before surgery. Here is a discussion where you can learn about it. There is also a provider search at http://mfrtherapists.com/

This article on MSK Neurology explains how pelvic misalignment can imitate spinal symptoms, so that could be something to consider. If you have diagnosed stenosis, it's possible that you could also have muscles pulling on the spine making it worse as this document explains.

@pam78

I have a homemade roller I have used for several years. Just put two tennis balls in a tube sock. Separate them with a rubber band and put a rubber band on the sock opening side to keep them in place. I lean against them on a wall and move up and down to relieve trigger points.

I also have spinal stenosis sciatica and leg and foot cramps.

Not a candidate for surgery because of osteoporosis. Injections didnt work sped up my heart.. PT helped a little and dry needling. Has anyone tried acupuncture for this?

@pam78 I done the 2 tennis balls and a sock and I tied a knot between the balls. I also had a friend make a bag I could put over my headrest and had her sew rows of tennis balls in it so I could massage my back while driving. As far as the leg cramps I had a massage therapist show me to take the side of your hand or have someone else works better and hit across the middle of your foot it would knock the cramps out everytime
