Left Lobe liver problem

Posted by vernfb @vernfb, Jul 2 9:24am

I haven't been all that hungry lately. Doctor sent me for a Ultrasound on Liver and they found something in the left lobe. There is a focal area of heterogeneous
echotexture in the left lobe of the liver measuring 4.1 x 3.0 x 4.0 cm. A mass
is not excluded. I'm kind of freaking out right now. All my liver function tests are normal but now there is this. I don't know if I have the guts to go through with an MRI. SO far only symptom is feeling full quickly.

@vernfb, I would like to extend my welcome to you on Connect. I completely understand the fear and apprehension that you are currently experiencing. As a patient, I do not know what your medical tests are indicating, aditionally as a patient, I am aware that additional tests are often necessary for the doctors to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. When my doctors were searching for a diagnosis for my own liver disease, I had many before a definite diagnosis was confirmed. It took almost all of my patience and raised my emotions to a 'crying often' level.
I had wonderful doctors along the way whom I respected and trusted, Each one, was willing to consult with other professionals, and to refer me to next level of specialty from my PCP all the way to a successful transplant in 2009. On the surface, reading your comment, it sounds like you are being treated by a sprcialist who is capable in the field of liver disease. If this is true, please go to him/her with your questions and fears. Then, go ahead and get the MRI (it is not an invasive procedure) so that you will be closer to a diagnosis and hopefully treatment. The liver function labs are only 1 test that indicates liver health. And the liver function numbers can change quickly.
If there is something happening with the liver, it is best caught early, so that treatment can begin. @vernfb, is there any particular reason that you don't want to have the MRI? Do you have someone who will be able to accompany you to the appointment and/or the procedure?

Maybe my sister can go with me. I had a CT scan 6 months ago for an enlarged prostate and the Urologist thought he saw Hemangiomas on the liver. I blew it off because wasn’t having problems and had other health issues to deal with. Liver tests were normal then and they’re normal now. But then I started to feel full quickly and couldn’t finish a meal. So my doctor ordered an ultrasound and that’s when they found unusual brightness on the liver scan. On the left lobe there is a 4x3x4 cm area of abnormality. I do have high triglycerides maybe that has something to do with it. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and this is causing panic attacks.

As stated above MRI is not invasive. It is a little nerve wracking but… I find it is much better to know than stress about all the negative possibilities. I do wish you the very best.
