Lazy bowel syndrome

Posted by marshasanger @marshasanger, Sep 7, 2024

I was told that I have lazy bowel syndrome. I am unable to have a normal bowel movement, and must rely on enemas. I’m unable to take MiraLAX Metamucil Linzess, etc. as I’m allergic to them. Any suggestions. I do eat Chia seeds, flaxseed meal, and hemp seed. Nothing seems to help or work. Suggestions? I’m 82 and have so many allergies.

I'm also allergic to citric acid; also am either allergic to or intolerant of sodium in any form which rules out stool softener and milk of magnesia. The latest thing I've been trying is Miralax (polyethelene glycol); I only take 1/4 the recommended amount once a day and it helps. Any more than 1/4, it just increases gas. It takes about 20 hours for it to work, though.

Good luck to you.

@h8bigbiz I'm also allergic to citric acid and sodium, makes it hard to find something that works.
