My mom has Bronchectasis and notices when she lay on her left side tons of phlegm come up. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

It depends on where the bronchiectasis is -- the lungs have 5 lobes. BE can be in one or more lobes. When your mom lying on her left side, she's engaging in "postural drainage". I suspect she has BE in her right upper lobe, which drains when she lies on her left side. It's the side that's up that is getting targeted.

Yes, I can’t lie on my left side at all as it triggers intense coughing. So for the past 4 years I’ve had to lie on my right side. Very depressing as my right now - the shoulder especially, hurts every morning and I need to see my chiro once a week to readjust that poor shoulder.

My friend's mom has it. He always opens up to me and talks about everything. I remember when he took her to a doctor more than a year ago because of that problem. He told him it's because of gravity. Lying on one side(especially left) can help drain the mucus from certain parts of the lungs, and for many people, lying on their side can help clear out a lobe that is particularly affected.

It can feel a bit overwhelming, but it's actually a good thing because it means the phlegm is coming out.

I intentionally lie on my right side to get rid of phlegm which is the whole point of what we do. Gravity is the answer, confirmed by my doctor today. Or as he put it, a bottle of water will pour better when it is tilted, same with mucus coming out.

I am the same, all mucus seems coming from my right side.
