Laxative for CKD Stage 3 patient

Posted by cardiff @cardiff, Jun 20 1:12am

I had a cancerous cyst which was removed from my left kidney in April 2023. I am a CKD Stage 3 Patient, I have a problem with constipation and would like to know what Laxatives are safe for me to take

@cardiff Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I know that many of us CKD patients deal with either constipation or diarrhea concerns.

Have you tried changing your current diet around, to include more hydration/water and increased fiber-rich foods? Another thought is increasing your exercise amount may "encourage movement". I know some people have taken up Zumba or exercise classes, or swimming, with success.

If you do decide to use laxatives, take a look at this PDF from Fresenius Kidney Care. It is a handy reference sheet to over-the-counter medications recommended for kidney disease patients: https://www.freseniuskidneycare.com/tools-and-resources/otc-meds-handout.pdf

I will be interested to hear what other members may be able to contribute from their own experiences.

Explore Magnisium , lots of information on it out there. What is your Dr specialist recommending?
